My P239 SAS was originally chambered in .357 SIG. The grip is perfect for my hands, it is very accurate, but the pistol is just too heavy for me. If I am not carrying a pocket pistol, I prefer a P320C slide on a subcompact grip module using X-grips.

A 9mm P239 with a lighter slide might be the best idea of the 3 three, but I have never fired or even held a 9mm P239 which has a lighter slide.

I agree which is why I carry a 9mm instead of my 40 or 357Sig both of which sit in my safe.

I didn't read the whole thread. But IIRC, a 239 9mm barrel will function fine in a 40/357 239. I think 357 mags will work fine, but not 40s&w. Someone else jump in.

"To the question. Are you still Carrying the 239? Do you find it a good carry gun? Or have you moved on to something else and why?"

I worked for a Dept that issued SIG pistols. During a period of time, my off-duty gun was a SIG P239 9mm. GREAT gun, carried easily and the grip fit my hands perfectly, I could shoot it just like its bigger brethren.

Back in 2005, I switched form the SIG DA/SA system to the Glock 19. I still like the P239 9mm a lot, but no longer shoot DA/SA pistols.

I used to carry a P239 on the occasions when I dressed up but I recently retired it for a P225A1 and the wife laid claim to it as her new EDC.

Tonight I was looking at a new 239 9mm at my local shop, and it was like saying hello to an old friend. Like my Glock 19 there are lots of options out there.. but the 239 is still a gun I respect. In CA. we only get 10 round mags. I don't consider 8 rounds much of a trade off considering the thin single stack mag is easy to conceal. I've had the 10 round 239 mags and they are odd... All the 239's I've had were easy to shoot well and 100% reliable.

To the question. Are you still Carrying the 239? Do you find it a good carry gun? Or have you moved on to something else and why?

I've had 9mm 40sw and 357sig. DAK DAO and DA/SA... I prefer DAK...in any caliber...9 and 357 were favorites... but DAK is rare in CA. I'm not sure SIG even makes them although they are listed on their site.
Thanks..

My single-stack carry is a P239...great hot weather carry

P239 in .357 is my primary carry, with at least two extra mags. In winter and with bulkier clothing, sometimes carry P229 in .357. Both are excellent to shoot, fit my hand well, and with lots of practice, a well-placed .357 round probably will probably "do the job," reducing the need for higher capacity-- although I have both 7and 8 round mags, so 24 rounds (7-rd +1) plus 2 x 8-rd extras should be sufficient in most cases. If not I'm somehwere I shouldn't be or defending home with my Sig 516 Patrol...and several others.

While I like the 239 (especially in 9mm), the grip doesn't fit my hand right. I got a 225A1 a few months ago, it fits me perfectly! Smile

I carried a 239 in 357sig for about 5 years, love the gun and still have it - will never get rid of it - it's reliable, accurate and fun to shoot. A couple years ago I changed to a 224 in same caliber. Only reason was to up my carry round count in 357sig. 224=10+1 and 2 12rds for 35 total vs 239=7+1 and 2 7rds for 22 total. A double stacked 239 would have been perfect, and named it P239DD!

I don't think you're going to notice the weight difference between a 9mm and 357 as long as you have a decent belt and a decent holster.

Then you would have a 229.

Actually I do have a 229. My 239 and 224 are smaller than my 229 in every dimension (except what it shoots). Barrel; 229=3.9", 239=3.6" and 224=3.5". But the 239 ends up .1" shorter than the 224 in OA length. Also the 239 slide width is a little thinner than the 224. Thus a 239 double stacked to accept 10 and 12 rd mags would have been fine to me. A 239DD would have answered a 224 (with a 10 rd mag in it) and a 229 Carry (with a 12 rd mag in it). But that is long past and not to be, Sig must have had some reason not to do it my way. Regardless as I said to the OP, I moved to 224 due to carry rd count (and wanting to stay Sig in DA/SA).

The P239 DAK is no longer listed in the catalogs and I decided to order a new one thru the SIG armed pro program where they are still listed as available. It will be my #2 to my Gen 1 SAS 2 tone. I tried a P225A1 but just prefer the P239. (I also prefer my 1995 2 tone P220 to the newer ones.)

With nothing but a barrel swap in my P239/40

9mm magazines work with 9mm
.357 Sig magazines work with .357 Sig and 9mm
.40 S&W magazines work with .40 S&W, .357 Sig and 9mm

At least that's been my experience.

I traded my 239 years ago and just picked a used one up at Cabelas and had forgot how good it felt in my hand. My only complaint is the grips are so smooth but I have a set of Hogue checkered G10s on the way.

I owned several P239, 9mm, 40 and 357 Sig all shot fantastic and I carried all of them on and off for a couple of years. I went away from them due to round count and I wanted a platform that could swap my mags back and forth. I own 4 P226 (and 30 mags) so I got a P228 and just picked up a P224, I carry all of the Sigs but really see the P224 as my go to off duty from now on.
