Nice Karma!

I have each caliber so any caliber is cool with me; I'm not picky when it's free.

Sigreund - as always, when you speak, everyone should listen. Over the last decade of being a firearms instructor, I've seen LOTS of factory fresh ammunition that was defective.

Once had a round come out of a box of Federal 147 gr Hydrashok where the bullet hadn't been formed into a hollow point - it was simply a perfect 9mm copper jacketed cylinder loaded to 9mm length. Have seen several instances of primers backwards, and have seen crumpled/creased cases that couldn't chamber (thank God) and probably would have been disastrous if fired.

Thanks for the generous karma - put me in for a .40, since that's our new issued ammunition, please.

Regards,

Kevin

another very informative post...i would add to also inspect your primers before you start taking them out of the box.

primers will sometimes be reversed or be "high" (not seated fully.

please add me to the drawing for the 9mm

Please put me in for the 9mm.

I have already gained something from your thread since I had never thought about gageing my ammo.

Thank you for the valuable information you provided and for offering a karma.

Sigreund,

Thanks for the tips. I usually just do a quick visual inspection, and I have caught a few 9mm (what I usually shoot) where the bullet was seated to low, or not enough.

I never thought of taking it further.

Thanks

Sounds like a great plan, Thank You for the opportunity to participate in a wonderful Karma. Plus it is time to swap out carry ammo, now if I can only find some GoldDots, .40 S&W 155 grain...Well maybe on Monday, planning on making the three hour trip to GTDistributors...
So a .40S&W gage will be nice. Now if I could only get them to allow me to carry 357SIG...

I guess I will also have a way of checking reloads, if I would only start to reload.

Please put someone else in for me, but the point of the post is well-taken. I have a small collection of factory defective ammo that I use in training to show that even paying more than a buck a bullet is no guarantee that it's OK.

Great post! I actually have a case gauge in .40, but would love one in 9mm. My to-do list for tomorrow starts with gauging my carry ammo.

Thanks again for a generous karma!

I do not have a gun that shoots any of those rounds without a barrel swap, so please do not put me down for the offer.

I just wanted to say thank you for both sharing a very useful item of knowledge, as well as for the brilliant karma thread. Karma threads are already super cool, but a discreet karma thread - well that's just epic.

I found the LE Wilson 357 SIG case gage on Dillon's site and will be picking one up shortly!

Nice karma. Count me in for the 9mm please.

Really surprises me how few people check their ammo. I always inspect my ammo (defensive and practice) visually before loading it into my guns. You would be surprised the stuff that passes QC even on higher end ammo.

Sideways primers, lopsided bullets, improperly seated bullets, et al.
