My parents have been living there for a few months now and I recommended to him that he really should just get a permit instead of just having it at home, etc. all the time. Anyways what is the process and REAL time waiting? I recall reading it takes less then my pain in the ass state of CT but I could be wrong. He is in Adairsville if that matters. Thanks for any help/tips!

I live in Canton and mine took about 60 days. Friend at work lives in Cartersville and he got his back in about 2 weeks.
georgiapacking.org has a lot of useful information. Very county specific
A coworker in Cobb county took 2 months I'm in dekalb, actually just left getting printed an hour ago. They stated 2-4 months though legally I understand 60 days is mandated I have read some counties instate have issued in as little as 10 days |

My wife got hers a year or so back and it took around 10 weeks. I have had mine for over 10 years and back then it also took about 10 weeks. When I went to renew mine a few months ago I was told that GA no longer does renews. I had to pay full price just like it was my first time but I received it in about a week. I agree with other that it probably depends on the county. I have heard of folks in others counties receiving them in a week or two.

Thanks for all the info guys! My dad is finally going to get his permit! He was very anti pistol (bolt rifle/shotgun only because no permit/record required) before and very anti permit as well but slowly I got him into it! The move to GA helped too as no permit required to buy a pistol unlike CT!

Bartow County should have a very short wait, I've heard as short as 10 working days. In Georgia as a rule, the farther you are from the ghetto cesspool of Atlanta the shorter the wait. Adairsville is in free Georgia.

"County specific" is the word as you can probably tell by now.
I'm in Pickens County and it's... fill out some paperwork, get fingerprinted, count to ten while the computer talks to another computer somewhere, pay 'em some money, they laminate you one up, you stick it in your wallet and say Thanks. Nothing for your parents to really do is there, but go to wherever they go in their county and start the process. It'll take ever how long it takes in their county. I've told this horror story before but I always love to restate it. My last renewal was a few years ago. It took from August to December to get it back. This was Paulding county.
I sure hope when I'm up again in '11, it only takes some of the time you guys quoted here. I can't do five months again. |
