just hacked off a bit.
I have just spent ten weeks recovering from a motorcycle accident. due to injuries I was forced to try a new carry method, appendix, and I liked it. of course I bought a new rig for it.
worked from crutches to a cane and finally got to where I was healing enough to ride my bicycle. so yesterday I am out for a ride with my dog ( on a Springer attachment ), anxiously awaiting a call saying my Harley is finally ready to come home.
We come around a corner and a woman has lost control of her dog, he's on a leash but loose. he's fighting with a dog on a tether, and comes running out between two parked cars and slams into my bike knocking me over and tying up my dog.
well, as I lay there looking to see if my dog Colt is alright, I see he's fine, but I am staring at pieces of my bike broken off and I notice my pistol has left my hip. roll off of it and put the pistol on the grass. sit up and assess my injuries. bleeding from my forehead into my right eye, scraped my right arm up pretty bad right where I lost some tattoo in the motorcycle accident...and a swollen right calf again a repeat from the scoot.

worse, my new Volkmann is scratched up near the muzzle and rear sight, a Rosen holster is also toast and the pocket clip broke off my Benchmade Barrage.
the lady feels bad, and I try and tell her I am banged up, but I have suffered some damage along with my bike and other things. all I want to do is limp home. and no I do not need an ambulance. there is no need for anyone to call 911.
three blocks later the lady comes up crying and wants to treat my injuries. I console her, assure her I will be fine.

one block from my house two sheriffs squads pull up in a screech sirens on and draw down on me and command me to put my arms up !
knowing the drill I drop my bike, tell Colt to stay, and I comply. walk backward to the officers and they strip me of my pistol. pat me down, take my knife and have me kneel on the ground. by then my wife shows up and they tell her " arms up " and strip her pistol also. after we get it all calmed down and we get our ID's, CCW's and pistols back they told us someone had phoned in " a man bleeding in the street, with a gun " hence their response.
by the way, the officers were very professional and apologized. I told them no need to. I certainly understood given the call they received.
well with the sirens, two squads, fire trucks, and all the commotion all my neighbors are wondering I am sure what I did to have two sheriffs officers draw down on me...

the worst part of it all beyond the damage to my pistol and other gear, is now I'm torn up again and can't ride my scoot back home to finish my repairs. and I likely won't be able to ride my Harley for another week or so...

long story, but please keep your dogs under control at all times.

Glad to hear you're okay. I think the important part is that you stayed smart and kept your cool throughout this. That last thing you would want is to get shot because you lost your cool with the police... and we all know that must have been hard given the circumstances.

Sorry to hear about your gun. And your moto-bike. I too ride and have crashed a few times and the worst part is not being able to ride. Well, get well and good luck.

Deadman,

Sorry to hear about any of this least of all the latest episode.

I'll echo DBEAU's congratulations on remaining cool and smart when the police rolled up. Thank God they kept theirs together as well. The potential for a really, REALLY bad day was written all over this one. As big a lesson right there (bigger?) as one about keeping our dogs under control at all times.

Sorry about your gear, as well. That sucks, to put it mildly. Hope everything can be made right again.

Heal up quickly...
