In SC it's not by county, the state has to juggle everyone's. The law limits the processing time SLED is allowed to 90 days from their receipt of the paperwork, but they just throw 'em in the corner and don't open them and claim they "receive" it when they finally deign to open it. Thus it usually is 6-9 months.

When I was in OH where it is handled by the sheriffs office it was much better. Even with the office only taking and processing aps 2 days a week I still dropped off my paperwork on Thursday and went back and picked it up on the next Tuesday.

When I first got mine, I got it same day, it's issued by county here in Alabama though.

Where I live now it took 4 working days for me and my wife. It's a off square piece of paper that looks like a 6 y/o made it, with the sheriff's signature.

I think most LEO's would laugh when I handed them my permit, it doesn't look very authentic.

My Nevada renewal, after the prior CCW had lapsed, took a month to get. Regards, Bob.

I took advantage of Florida's "Apply in Person" plan and spent 28 minutes filling out the paperwork, prints, photo. I had the permit in the mail 5 business days later. (I had taken the class last year)

I'm mid-process here in Westchester County, New York (Northern border of NYC). Including filling out the lengthy application and obtaining notarized character references (yeah, seriously), it all takes about six months to a year.

Funny I should see this today, because this morning I got a phone call from the detective handling my application. He asked me about an incident that I failed to mention in my application. When I was a junior in HS six years ago, myself and twenty other people were taken to the police station after a party on a golf course! I was unfortunate enough to walk in to pick up a friend as the party was getting broken up. They took us all to the station, wrote our names on a sheet of paper, and called our parents to come pick us up. That was it. We weren't charged or cited for anything.

So apparently this incident came up when my background was being investigated. They looked to see if I had any "known associates" and saw a two-page list of names. When he mentioned it to me, I actually laughed out loud. I had completely forgotten the incident.

Long story short, they are mailing me a copy of the police report. I need to write a detailed letter to the county clerk explaining what happened and have it notarized.

It's a lot to go through here in Westchester (especially because my license will only allow me to carry to and from the range), but I'm willing to do whatever I have to do to get it. Fortunately the detective handling my application is a really awesome/helpful guy.

PA Non-Resident: mailed the check 10/28, received permit 11/5. Smokin' fast! Picked up GA, PA, and ND with it (over SC Resident permit).

If the Sheriff denies your permit, you can appeal and if you win, the Sheriff (ends up being the Taxpayers) pays your court costs. In this state, the permit is called a "Permit to Carry a Pistol". There is no distinction between open and concealed carry.

I took my classes on a Saturday, handed in my application on Monday and had my permit (by mail) on Thursday. My county has a progressive people oriented Sheriff. We are lucky.

Hennepin Co. took almost the full 30 days, but I had mine within their limit. Largest population in the state, so I expected nothing sooner.

Utah has 30 days by statute, but my non-resident permit was almost 60 days. They have good information on their website about where they are in the process, though, and admitted that (at that time) they prioritized resident permits ahead of non-resident.

I love living in Northern New England.
Vermont allows CCW, no permit required
I got my NH renewal in about 3 days this month and it cost me ten bucks
My Maine non-resident took about 30 days.

My 'range' is a gravel pit out back of my house belonging to the retired chief of police.

I am about ten minutes from Sig Academy and the factory....

In Florida there is no average time for the class tha tyou need to take. I've seen 2 hours and I've seen 12 hours. But the good thing in Florida is that the state is mandated to process your request for the permit in 90 days. But if they don't open the request that you mailed, the clock didn't start. It took me almost 4 months from start to finish.

My ol' lady just got hers here in Florida at a regional office which is very quick. She got hers in the mail only six days after taking her class. I had to wait a full 6 months back when I applied for mine.
