In keeping with the Civil War theme of late, here's a good one from Steve Earle. He says the character "Kilrain" comes from Michael Shaara's book, "The Killer Angels," a historical fiction that tells the story of the Battle of Gettysburg. Earle goes on to say that there were 3 Irish immigrants in the 20th Maine. That 2 of the 3 were killed at Gettysburg, and that Kilrain is a composite of the 3 historical soldiers.
