Dwight Yoakam and his acoustic guitars
He seems to use a half dozen guitars in a dozen videos,

they look to have 1/4 in plugs in s bottom side , but I can't make out any pick ups in the sound holes.

My question is where are they putting the pickups?

Look up images for K&K Mini as an example of how some pickups get installed in a real simple manner just stuck under the bridge, inside.

There are a number of variations you can't see.

Ever seen Dwight live? Damn good show. One song right into the other with very few breaks talking. High energy

No, he's got a date here in June , though.
Who knows how that's gonna go.

My " need to see " list is pretty small , but he's on it

Many acoustic pickups are under the saddle, not in the sound hole. The Martin thinline and the above referenced KK Mini are two very popular examples of aftermarket pickups. And of course, many guitars come with pickups installed from the factory.

Sound hole pickups are popular for if you want to remove it often or don't want to do any drilling on your guitar.

Can anyone see , for sure, is his Martin DD28 amplified?

The pictures that I have seen don't show a plug or a cord/pack.

There are a dozen or more kinds of acoustic guitar "pickups." Some read the strings, sort of like an electric guitar pickup. Some take the vibrations from the saddle. Some read the vibrations from the soundboard. Some have microphones inside the body. And there are combinations of those, and probably some other kinds I am not remembering.

I don't think it comes with a pickup from the factory but they can be added easily and basically invisibly. With a thinline or Fishman saddle pickup you often plug into the strap button.

I saw him in Tucson in the 4th of July show a few years ago. You are correct, his professionalism was something to see. It was an outdoors show, hot as hell, and he had on an old fashioned wool looking suit. He apparently did not sweat through his suit and was just awesome. No small talk between songs, he just tore through his hits and some other songs as well. Really impressive, I almost forgave him for being a jerk in Sling Blade.

Yes, my wife and I saw him several years back at IP Casino in Biloxi. Nice small venue and all adult crowd. Funny to hear all the “older” women start screaming when he does his little leg twisting thing. (I’m older too)
We didn’t really know what to expect because I always thought he was so “twangy” sounding. But a few weeks before I had woke up on the couch about midnight and heard this rocking song. I looked at the tv and had to rub my eyes, it was Dwight! I was up another hour till it was over. Decided then I wanted to see him and he was in Biloxi about 6 weeks later.
We like going to shows there because it is small, we get a room upstairs, have a nice dinner up at the restaurant on the top floor, couple glasses of wine, then head down to the show, where I can have another couple glasses of wine.

I remember as a teen in the early 60s scrapping an old telephone and dropping the microphone through the sound hole into the acoustic guitar. Then taping the wire down and plug into what ever amp was available. Usually that was some kind of cheap stereo or radio amp that had been wired to accept a plug.
