This question is two fold, not just to try and stump you, but to possibly get more answers than I already have. It's a 3 part question.
I'm talking major studio motion pictures here with names people know:

1. Name a movie where an actor played themselves in the movie. NOT in a cameo or small role, but as a main character in and throughout the whole film. (I only have three)

2. Same question, but where the actors name was in the title of the film. (I know two)

3. Same question as #1 and #2, but where the film wasn't an autobiography. (I can think of one)

"Being John Malkovich" is the only one that fits all 3 that I can think of. Anything else requires way too much gray matter at this time of night. Big Grin

That would be one of them, and the answer to #2 & #3.

Does "JCVD" count? I know, it's only Van Damme's initials.

hmm... let's see...

1. Being John Malkovich (John Malkovich), Last Action Hero (Arnold Schwarzenegger), Happy Gilmore (Bob Barker).

2. Being John Malkovich (John Malkovich) and My Name Is Bruce (Bruce Campbell).

3. My Name Is Bruce (Bruce Campbell).

I think that "does her"!

Evil Knevil was first to do it I think.
Can't remember the name of the (1970's) movie.

What's considered a major studio? 'Cold Souls' had a theatrical release this year, and it had Paul Giamatti playing himself.

Oh yeah, 'Private Parts' had Howard Stern, too.

I wouldn't count Last Action Hero, he's only playing himself in part of the movie.

Haven't seen They Call ME Bruce, so I hadn't thought of it.

Wasn't Viva Knievel more of a documentary? (no, they don't count, ruling out Steve McQueen and "On any Sunday")

Audi Murphy is one of my 3, yes.

Private parts was an autobiography, so it would fit the first part, but no other.

While I love Paul Giamatti... he was in what? Big Grin

There is still one from my list of three... Name in the title and leading role. An autobiography.

the official title of the movie is "HOWARD STERN'S PRIVATE PARTS"...

so that would fulfill #1 and #2...

No.

Evel Knievel (1971) with George Hamilton playing Evel, was a biography.

Viva Knievel (1977) was a work of fiction.

From IMDB: "The one and only real live Evel Knievel in his first dramatic movie role." "As the legendary stuntman travels to Mexico.......
........Evel's main rival is plotting to have Evel killed and then get rich by using the Team Evel 18-wheeler to smuggle cocaine into America."

I contend that this movie actually meets all 3 of the criteria if...IF...Evil Knievel meets the definition of actor. Eek (Nobody said "good")

How about Roy Rogers and Gene Autry? They more or less played themselves and probably had their names in the titles of some of their movies. Likewise Laurel and Hardy and the Marx Brothers.
