I was impressed by the Firefly episode Out of Gas, in which there was a fire aboard and the crew vents the ship to quench it. They switched to a third person view from space and you heard nothing.

IIRC, this was done first in the Battlestar Galactica reboot (the camera angles, the focusing in and out during space scenes, and the silence). Again, IIRC, the same people who did that for BSG worked on Firefly.

It impressed me, too!

Keeping on the thread, I'm surprised (pleasantly so) as The Orville seems to be finding its footing!

Darn good episode tonight.

They have found their niche.

Firefly was on television a couple of years before the reboot of Battlestar Galactica. And before the two of them, 2001: A Space Oddyssey had no sounds in space scenes.

Don't know if they've found their niche quite yet but agree, excellent episode. I do think that had they removed the campiness and switched to star fleet uniforms this would be Just as good as if not better than some Star Trek series

Just watched the season finale. What a great show this turned out to be. I did not expect this from the mind that brought us Family Guy but here we are haha..

It has been interesting indeed. As things settled in the series improved. That said i couldn't help keeping a look out from the corner of my eye for the flashing TILT sign!

I like the show but hate the Demi-messaging...

This last one was clearly anti-religion...

As long as they don't subliminally message me, I'm OK with it.

That's now how I took it, either. And, while I don't consider myself a "religious person," I do keep an eye out for subtle (or not-so-subtle) messaging in the entertainment I watch.

That's the way I took it, not sure how to see it otherwise. At least the message wasn't hateful and angry, reason and knowledge are the center of the universe. We'll see...

I saw it more as a discussion vs an attack on religion. Just an interesting angle kind of like the sex change episode.

I'm very glad they made the overall show and surprised by it. I'm looking forward to season 2.

Just the simple fact that a Seth McFarlin show is generating this kind of discussion at all is frankly high praise.

The Orville came right out of left field and took everybody by surprise.

At first the "comedy" seemed "out of place", then I realized, this is how people really do act in the workplace, grab-assing, fucking with one another.

It only took about 3 episodes to hook me.

I have not been disappointed.

It's true.

More realistic in that sense than a great many things on TV and in Films.

I didn't take it that way, I thought it showed how religion, just like a lot of things could be corrupted by bad people. SPOILER AHEAD!!!!!

For example, the Kelly Pope was going to do the right thing and change the religion based on what Kelly had told him but was killed by his assistant in order to keep the status quo.
