Lots of hype, best movie, best actor, awards galore. Supposedly.

Went and saw it tonight.

Pure, utter fucking trash. Worst movie I have seen in a decade. A total snooze fest.

$1 redbox movie. Don’t waste your time.

I’ll give credit to Mr. Phoenix, who played the joker. He really transforms himself into the role. He lost like 50 lbs to play the role. He talked to actual psychopaths to guide his character. I do believe he will probably win best actor by a landslide for his amazing performance. Too bad the script of the movie was trash.

I'm hearing this movie turned out to be more of an arthouse film about how the poor, mentally ill, and downtrodden have been left behind in society by the wealthy and powerful. This is not a Joker movie at all. It's a standalone movie that just uses the Joker character, but he really isn't the Joker.

I think the director Todd Phillips played everyone with this woke nonsense and created controversy so more people will want to say screw the woke culture and go see his artsy fartsy, arthouse film.

I haven't seen the movie, but this was the breakdown I heard this morning.

No Batman or Robin, not a remake, and no ties to the other Batman films. Just a standalone origin story for the Joker.

I saw something about this on the news last night. Apparently some gov't authorities are concerned that this movie may trigger violent acts in some people, and were recommending extreme vigilance in and around theaters where it's playing. Up to and including highly visible LE presence. Of course they had to play up the theater shooting in Aurora as part of the "story".

Saw it las night with my girl and we both think it’s an incredible film. I’m sure I’ll see it again in the theater. Phoenix should deservedly get the best actor award as should the director: there are scenes in this film that are visually stunning and will stick with me for some time. This is the origin story of a psychopath—certainly some points about society are being made, but IMO do not detract from the story. Love this movie and think it would be great to watch right before Dark Knight. I never thought anyone could match Heath Ledger’s Joker, but Phoenix does so and then some.

I heard in the past couple of days that leftists are highly critical of the film.
Here is PJ Watson's take on it all

The last "comic book" movie I have watched was the Dark Knight Rises. This is NOT a superhero movie. I'm going to try to see it with my son next week.

The snowflakes are melting during screenings:
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tv...-movie-theatres.html

Controversial movie Joker has caused further concern after fans stormed out of the cinema following its global release this weekend.

Movie lovers flooded Twitter on Friday with comments about the film, which sees Joaquin Phoenix portray Arthur Fleck, the embattled clown who later transforms into Batman's most iconic nemesis in the comic book world.

"Among a flurry of messages on the microblogging site, one fan wrote: 'Literally just walked out of a screening of Joker. Way too terrifying to be there with all this going on the way the movie glamorizes gun violence and mental health issues.'"

Ha - what were you expecting - Snow White?
Luv to watch the Liberals, Hollywood and the media implode on each other.

And what is all this "Incel" psycho-babble?
Back in the day we just called these types "Loser".

Would someone kindly provide me with the short version of why they're so upset about this film? They're upset about everything, of course, but what, specifically, is the problem with this particular film?

The Joker, once a buffoon cartoon villain typified by Cesar Romero, has evolved into a psychopathic evil villain once comic writer Frank Miller rewrote the character in the 1980s, and Heath Ledger recreating the film role. Now the latest film continues the Ledger treatment, but with even less allegiance to the typical superhero film archetype.

I have not seen the film, nor have I read too much about it (just viewed a couple of trailers), but my take on this is that the politically correct woke folks found the film too terrifying, a white, "incel", mentally ill outcast taking up extreme violence using guns. So in their deluded minds, they think white, alienated young men will go out and shoot up the country. This review seems to touch on some of this, blasting the film for being too "real" and "uncartoony", and not enough connections to a comic book setting, comparing the film more to Taxi Driver than a superhero movie.

This story from the NY post provides some insight into the issues.

LINK: https://nypost.com/2019/10/05/...screening-witnesses/

A mystery man known only as “V for Vegas” confronted an unruly patron during a screening of the new Joaquin Phoenix flick Friday night in Times Square, diffusing the tense situation until theater security arrived to boot the troublemaker, witnesses said.

“This is the guy who spent our entire screening of JOKER in NYC spitting at people and clapping whenever Joker killed somebody. Security escorted him out after a third of the audience fled the theater out of fear that he’d start hurting people,” Nathanael Hood tweeted.

The unnamed villain was drinking before the start of the film at the AMC Empire 25, witnesses said.

“I saw him pour a full bottle of tequila into his slushee b4 the movie started,” claimed Etai Benson. “S–t was scary – like a 4-D movie experience.”

But Vegas made sure things didn’t get out of hand, Hood said.

“This is the guy who calmly confronted the guy and deescalated the situation until security came,” Hood tweeted. “Coming out everybody was shaking his hand and calling him a hero.

He continued: “I asked for his name and he said ‘V for Vegas.’ Not all heroes wear capes, folks.”

Nerves were already on edge for the much-anticipated flick after calls for mass shootings at screenings were posted online. The DC Comics arch-villain is believed to be a magnate for unhinged incels.

The theater — which could not immediately be reached for comment — offered free movie tickets to the disturbed patrons, Hood said.

Police had no official report of the incident or the man’s arrest, authorities said.

We supposed to be butt-hurt because or social justice nonsense or just scared because it is a scary movie?
Lots of hype is right but I will wait until it's on HBO.

I saw it yesterday with Ms Pulicords and we both liked it, although it is dark. Phoenix gives an outstanding performance as a psychopath falling deeper and deeper into madness/violent behavior. Note that this is a prequel to the Batman story. The Wayne family (Bruce/soon to be "Batman") is featured, although not prominently.

I think the complaints about the "politics" of the movie are groundless. The man who becomes "Joker" is clearly on the verge of "going off the rails" from the very beginning of the story. Its just a question of time and place. How he becomes an "anti-hero" and gains a following is played out against his evolving persona, and the politics of what's occurring in the city of "Gotham."

Spoiler Alert!

Robert DeNiro is featured predominantly. He comes off as the arrogant prick I believe he is in real life. Not "political", just an "entertainer" that's only real concern is how well he can make himself appear before his audience, no matter who's harmed in the process. Watching as Joker's momentum accelerates and he approaches the delivery of DeNiro's "comeuppance" is suspenseful and brings to mind that latter's character in "Taxi Driver", only in this case with a far different and (IMHO) satisfying outcome.

Yes, those on the Left might complain about how anarchists in masks are depicted so unsympathetically similar to their own ANTIFA allies, but I'm not so sure this was deliberate or just happens to be the nature of the "collective" beast. When you act like "rabble" and decide that the power of the mob is more acceptable than any rule of law, it doesn't matter if its the French revolution of the 1700's, the communist revolt against the Russian Monarchy, or black clad "Social Justice Warriors" of 2019, innocent people's lives will be taken with regularity.

There is also the persistent false rumor (though reported as fact originally by the MSM)that the Aurora shooter was inspired by the Joker's character.

Another lefty concept and unfounded fear based on a lie.
