The show is a very, very slow burn. So was Breaking Bad at first. Those early episodes kinda sucked.

BCS is better than Breaking Bad and somewhat entertaining but takes a few episodes to get rolling.

You really should give Breaking Bad about 4-5 episodes prior to calling it.

Agreed. When I heard all the buzz about BB I thought I'd check it out. It was hard for me not to bail during the first or second episode but then I was glad I stuck with it.

I liked Breaking Bad but I didn’t think it was the best damn thing ever like so many of the people that recommended it. Several painfully slow episodes and plenty of characters that annoyed the hell out of me. I liked Saul and watched the first season of BCS. What a load of shit. Never bothered to start season 2 after wasting my time with season one.

There are a few of us out there.
Mike and Saul were the only somewhat likable characters. Walt was just as asshole and Jessie was annoying beyond belief.

I think the attraction to BCS is the connecting lines to draws to BB. The pre-story if you will and how it connects to BCS. People who have watched and enjoyed BB generally like BCS... they like seeing the characters from BB seen from a different perspective. At least that's why I enjoy BCS despite the initial slowness and sometimes off the chart story line.

Saul Goodman was a pretty minor character on Breaking Bad IIRC so it's kind of strange to me they would base an entire spin-off on his character.

I am thinking that is purposeful so that it has room for development of the character. I know the theme of Breaking Bad but never watched whole series. It is nice that you do not have to know the Breaking Bad storyline to follow it. I do find the show following the episode very annoying. It is a program discussing the episode. I guess I was expecting something intelligent or insightful like Robert Osborne or Eddie Muller on TCM.

I like BCS for the invisible story happening inside the character. I never noticed the slow pace of the show but perhaps it coincides with the invisible storyline.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

While there is some intermittent "action", that's not what drives interest in this series. Its all about the characters, how they develop, act, and deal with unexpected consequences. Like "Breaking Bad", there isn't going to be many shootouts and blood spilling incidents. If you're hoping for that, you will be disappointed. Like "Mad Men" (another fine series), this is all about people. Some you'll love, some you'll hate, and some you'll find humorous and then love to hate. Great writing, directing, and acting. Maybe not for everyone, but certainly meets the expectations of those of us who enjoyed "Breaking Bad" for what it offered.

A quick question; how much does Gus Fring figure into this series? I enjoyed this character and would like to see more of him.

The first couple of seasons not so much. Gus was there but more at the periphery.

Now he is a full force as the series follows both Saul and Mike. From BB we know that Mike was Gus' right hand man.
