She's so awesome that she got my entire family into liking the Hurdy Gurdy Smile Don't know why but I am drawn to obscure music like this. So many great artists on YouTube.

What a strange sound, not typical of most stringed instruments. It resembles that of bagpipes.

I have a kind of fascination with musical instruments, both in how they are made and how they are played.

Yeah, I came across her a year or so ago. The tune was "Gurdy's Green". Love that stuff.

I had heard the term Hurdy Gurdy all my life, but never knew what one was, much less that it was a musical instrument, until this thread. I listened to some HG music on YouTube, and read some about how they work. I was really interested in those special sounding drone strings. There are four of them, and they can be used all together, or just one, or in any combination, and they can be tuned. Instruments with drones (bagpipes, 5-string banjo, etc.) have always captured my interest.

How a Hurdy Gurdy works.

They sound like music that you would play while working the ouiji board on a dark and stormy night , when the power has gone out and the phone lines are down, the only car won't start and no one has seen Shelly for over an hour

First popular use I can remember was when I started watching Black Sails. It was very appropriate considering hurdy gurdy's were not-uncommon in the 18th century around Europe and in folk music.
