I have a soft spot for Anna Kendrick and so this may be biased, but I thought the movie was pretty good. It's a little bit like The Martian and Apollo 13 mixed together, and recounts the journey of a ship ferrying researchers from earth to Mars in the near future. The science of it seems fairly realistic, which makes watching sci-fi of this type more enjoyable to watch. | ||

Yeah, without giving spoilers, this sucked. So unrealistic... No back up systems? No use of tethers? Yeah, that’s realistic....nope. A stowaway. Nope. There are sign in sign out control points on all launch pads. Every person, tool, nut, bolt is signed in and signed out to make sure weight is maintained. Realistic? I was disappointed in the film. You're exactly right. Just too far fetched. I totally get a mistake in preparing for the mission, but this? Come on. Too much. | |||

My response to the question the movie is asking: I don’t think doc was the right choice in the end. She still has mission critical skills. Perhaps she had the least to lose personally but that shouldn’t be a primary consideration. They all accepted the mission knowing there were risks. At that point, the Korean guy was no longer mission critical. Perhaps some value to future missions but no longer this one. He should go first out of the three primary crew. That being said, he is an official crew member. The stowaway should have been the one to sacrifice. He was least mission critical. Although he may have some value over the Korean guy at this point, he was not an official crew member. I’m not finding the final outcome satisfactory. I didn't really see it as a "mission" with a critical goal. It appears that these were two researchers who won a chance to take their research to space. The only person with a "mission" to carry out was the commander, and her mission was to bring the researchers out and back. | |||

His mission was research to develop o2 atmosphere on Mars for colonization. The value of the mission could be debated but that was his mission. It was done after the algae was used. One purpose of the mission was his research. Anything necessary in support of that is mission critical. Pilot didn’t seem to have a mission but is mission critical. It’s hard to get past a human body being bolted behind a panel and nobody notices. It’s a launch facility not a subway station. Did I miss the explanation of how he got stuck there? | |||

Nope. It was never explained. I thought it was flawed, but decent. Well-acted, for the most part. But there were a number of "unbelievable" aspects. | |||

I'll say the elephant in the room: I'm surprised the cast was white/asian and the stowaway black. In contrast to a black cast and the stowaway white male. I think this is a woke story trying to get us to think about a choice Sophie might have to make and how things like race may influence that choice. I treated it like she sold the original Jackson Pollak he sent her and used the money to hitch a ride to Mars when the rest happened, and since it was free money anyway she sacrificed her life. See, it makes perfect sense as a part of The Accountant CU and she remains a supporting hero in keeping with the Anna Kendrick real life CU. In the next installment, The Accountant will avenge her unnecessary death. | |||

So do I, but after about 40 minutes, I gave up. Shows like The Expanse kind of ruined sci-fi shows for me. Can't wait for the next season of the Expanse. | |||
