I mean their self titled album, and even the EP before it. It was a bit less polished. The first time I saw Rancid was when they opened for Inside/Out, Alloy and Iceburn. Obviously they outlasted those bands.

Op. Ivy was better than Rancid (my opinion.) Though I really don't count DHC because Matt wasn't with them for long. But- Oh my, did I drool over Karina and Elyse in the early 90s. I'm not sure what they look like now. Google time!
OI has a more raw, more ska sound than Rancid, which have definitely a more melodic, finished sound.

What a coincidence, I named my daughter Karina. Big Grin

A few I dig on the more ska side too are Mustard Plug and Mephiskapheles and Reel Big Fish.

A few of my other favorites:

NOFX

The Specials

I saw Rancid at a small club in Pittsburgh back in '98 on the Life Won't Wait tour. Things got pretty intense in the pit, good punk, good times.

My wife and SIL were friends with a lot of the Reel Big Fish fellas way back when they were band dorks. How F-ed up is it that the Beat opens up for them

actually,

I bought tickets, thinking that they were the headliner, and RBF were the middle act, (supervillians opened, and they were pretty good)

I was suprised when the beat were the middle act, great, but short set, and then RBF took over,
we (missus and I) got tired, didn't care for the music that much, and left,

as we passed thru the lobby, Dave Wakeling was at the tshirt booth, so we stopped, and chatted,

he told me he was on this tour to try to get his music out in front of a different audience, and so far, according to him, it was doing great,

we were amazed that he was standing there, and that he took the time to talk to us as well,
Dave Wakeling is truly the nicest guy in the business,,,,,

they played a few new songs too, he spoke of an album out sometime in the near future,,,

I used to be disgusted,
