I guess I will pass. Just watched the trailer and saw too much poor editing. and if that is the best they got, I am out of time.

What do you mean, specifically? Just curious.

I have seen it twice now. I went back a second time because I missed some dialogue the first time because everyone is often talking hurriedly or softly. It is a good film.

Editing? It is what you might expect now in an action film: Quick, jumpy, but it never loses the narrative (as happened in the awful Suicide Squad).

The following may contain spoilers.

The story is set in Berlin in November 1989. An MI6 agent named "Lorraine" is sent by her spymasters to Berlin recover the body of a dead agent and retrieve a list of double agents that everyone is after.

It is the week that the Berlin Wall is about to come down. The city, on both sides, is tumultuous. Thus begins the intrigue, double crosses, love affairs, and, of course, many deaths.

It is like John Wick in its action scenes because the director worked on the John Wick films. He is a stuntman by trade; he makes the fighting and the stunts the center of the film.

There is a lot of 1980s music in the film. I like this part very much. The '80s were, more or less, "my time," if you will.

The film is based on a graphic novel. The cinematography attempts to mimic these visualization to one degree or another. Hence, the colors discussed above. It is okay. But I would have preferred something more naturalistic.

Charlize Theron is good as Lorraine. You like movies or you don't. If politics keeps you from going to the movies, that situation is fine. But it must mean too you are not a movie lover. Okay. We all have our tastes. It is all good.

If you like spy movies or action films, it is worth a look on the big screen, which is still the best way to watch a movie.

I wouldn't watch it a second time because I've never watched a movie for the second time except for Alien and that was because I slept through the movie the first two times from being drunk.

But in any case, I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED the movie. It wasn't formulaic at all. It was spy versus spy with plot twists, cross, double-cross, and even triple-cross.

You almost think you know who is who. But find out you're wrong. Then you think you finally know who is who but then you're still mistaken.

As far as gun handling, I think they tried to make it "realistic." No one cocks the hammer on an automatic. She does do some press checks but I think she did it one too many times as in press checking a gun before going to battle which she already press checked the first time it was handed to her.

But again, I liked the movie.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I ordered the soundtrack from Amazon and it came today! I have not bought a soundtrack since "Lost Boys" came out, before that was the soundtrack for "Heavy Metal" the motion picture.

From the trailer, the scene where she jumps out of a building holding a rope which is around the neck of someone... wasn't that in a Bond movie? I'm picturing Pierce Brosnan.

Yeah, but Margot Robbie.

(It was terrible, I agree.)

Terrible color grading made it way too hard to watch. 80's soundtrack felt forced. Storyline was fragmented. Just overall a painful experience.

It had one redeeming fight scene, the "stairwell" scene.... But save your money.

It tried to be cool, like John Wick, but just ended up trying too hard.

Agree, watched it last night, everyone said the same thing WTF, old plot, old story, someone has a list, list will get everyone killed, everyone wants list, kill him, kill her, sex scene, the "blueification" was way overdone, it just never was cohesive in any way and the flashback/government spy interview tactic, seriously hollywood, get some new writers...

Hell I knew what it was about 5 minutes into the movie.

Sex scene, meh, wasn't all that an a bag'o chips.

I just saw this. It was okay. I like the casting, especially John Goodman and Toby Jones. Toby Jones is one of my favorite character actors. Charlize performs the physical stuff pretty well, and she looks way more tough and competent than ScarJo does in her similar tough-gal roles. They don't give Charlize much to work with in terms of acting - she just whisper-grumbles in a typical movie-spy tone. I also liked that they didn't use a wobbly handheld camera throughout the whole flick like most modern thriller films.

I did think it was a missed opportunity in terms of the cinematography. If they were going to set it in the '80s, I was hoping they'd shoot it neo-'80s style, like Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive. I pictured in my head a nod to films like William Friedkin's To Live & Die in L.A. or early Michael Mann. Charlize's love scene could've played out like a scene from Adrian Lyne's 9 1/2 Weeks.

Instead, the '80s are shown to be desaturated colors tinted the standard blue and orange, with the occasional neon blue-hot pink. To really slam the '80s home, the soundtrack is non-stop '80s radio hits that appears to be trying to outdo the overwhelming song list of this year's Baby Driver. Oh, and the gimmicky spray-paint graffiti titles too. I would've preferred less pop songs and a little more instrumentals from the likes of Jan Hammer or Tangerine Dream.

But overall, Atomic Blonde was a pretty good bargain night choice. I would've hated to pay full price for it.

Saw it hoping for some violence and was treated with 80's music and Charlize bOObage, bonus. It wasn't that bad. I didn't expect it to be Casino Royale and 007 or to win an Oscar. I've seen much worse and some better movies.

The World Is Not Enough. Rope tied around the guy's belt loop. It happened to be on last night, so it's fresh on the mind.

Just got back from it and I really liked it.

Reading about the 80's soundtrack I was excited, and I like how they used it. Two songs in particular - "I Ran" and "Voices Carry".

Potential minor spoilers -

They play "I Ran" as they got into a car chase in some crappy East German police car. I smiled, and thought the scene was filmed well - it felt like very one long shot, spinning the camera as they changed directions.

"Voices Carry" was played twice. Once when Lorraine was worried about a bug overhearing what was about to be said. Perfect. And later when this same bugged conversation came up in the debrief. For about 5 seconds they had it set up to look exactly like the music video. I thought is was a neat homage that worked well with the story.

No. Not that was noticeable at least. Some quick-cuts, but nothing excessive and you could always figure out what was going on in a fight scene.

They use a handheld camera for Charlize's long fight through a stairwell, but for the most part it's thankfully tripods and Steadicams.
