They have ice in Iowa?

It’s looks like Kilmer is on board for this one. Good to see. Hard to think of Top Gun without Iceman. Good to see him working again after the throat cancer.

My son is 10 and just watched Top Gun for the first time about a month ago.

He is beyond manageable knowing there's a new one coming out.

He's even got himself a flight jacket and some knock-off raybans.

Hedley Lamarr: Wait, wait, wait. I'm unarmed.
Bart: Alright, we'll settle this like men, with our fists.
Hedley Lamarr: Sorry, I just remembered . . . I am armed.

Man that was 32 years ago! What would the flight surgeon say about their keeping their flight status?

Another movie I can skip. The original was fine for what it was, in the day. A remake? What's next, 'Iron Eagle 5'?

And yea, I too watched the movie for the Tomcat flight sequences. I think the USN charged something like 7K per hour per plane, for the movie. What's that adjusted for inflation for today.

Oh, probably CGI today, which is a shame. Cool to see the CGI in 'Dogfights' on the TV, but for a movie I want the real thing. Otherwise, I can just fire up one of my old flight sims for the same effect.

It only stands to reason that where there's sacrifice, there's someone collecting the sacrificial offerings. Where there's service, there is someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice is speaking of slaves and masters, and intends to be the master.

Val is gonna have to loose at least 50-60lbs in order to get himself into a flight suit. Maybe chemo has helped with the weight loss

Seeing the original cemented a bucket list wish for me:
To ride the cat!
Of course I will never get to.
I may see the new one, depending on reviews.
And I am waiting for "Ishtar 2". Roll Eyes

It's going to be hard to make Fallon, NV look as appealing as San Diego in the remake.

This is an opinion I can support. I remember watching movies like Iron Eagle and Firefox. When Top Gun came out in 1986, it was practically a documentary compared to every other aerial dogfight film before it. The only other film up to then that had any semblance of realism was The Final Countdown, which technically didn't contain any dogfighting.

I'm not a fan of the F&F franchise, but the original The Fast and The Furious had some cool street-racing scenes w/ real cars. In each subsequent installment, the cars become more CGI.

Ironically, Rob Cohen directed both Fast & The Furious 1 AND Stealth!

I also liked the dopey fun of F&F 1. I even liked the first drag race which used a lot of CGI. That car porn of x-ray shots into the gearbox or following the nitrous into the engine cracked me up. I wish they had more of those kinds of shots in the sequels, instead of the Rock surfing torpedoes on glaciers.

I also loved The Final Countdown. I'm also one of the few fans of Flight of the Intruder. (Dad worked on Intruders and Prowlers at Alameda NAS.) Heck, I even love Blue Thunder! (Can't go so far as to embrace Fire Birds. I have to draw the line somewhere.) Razz

Final countdown was a great flick. Loved the F14 scenes in that movie. I thought the pilot in one scene nearly parked his tomcat in the ocean.

i'm with you on flight of the intruder. I'm not sure why but I always loved the A6 intruder.

And firebirds... well, lets just say Tommy lee jones nailed the part of an army aviator. My father was an army pilot and he was the perfect warrant officer.

He was in 'The Snowman' and scary skinny. Due to the cancer, I'd imagine, his voice is unrecognizable.
