Cruise is a nut. Ruined Jack Reacher like Disney killed Star Wars. Edge Of Tomorrow and Oblivion are the only films he has done in 15 years that are worth a fuck. Before that Collateral with Michael Mann at the helm (Heat), The Last Samurai (2003) and Minority Report. Before that he got lucky with Paul Thomas Anderson (Magnolia) and Kubrick’s last film (Eyes Wide Shut). His days of being Maverick with the roles are over. Him and Paula just haven’t gotten the memo yet.

I'll see it simply because the first was so cool to me in fifth grade. Had the soundtrack on vinyl. The Navy had to know how influential the original would be. After its release, they had a VF-124 "Gunfighters" Tomcat flown into Peterson AFB to see. By see, I mean not a closed canopy display. I got to sit in the pilots seat!

Still have the squadron patch. One of the happiest memories of my youth!

Oh please. She and Mav had a fling and that's it. She would have dumped him when she realized how immature and impulsive he really was, concentrated on her career, and advanced within the private sector in defense.

Personally, I couldn't care less if Tom Cruise is too old or crazy, or who else is or isn't in the film. I don't mind the guy, but he's not a draw for me. I didn't go see the original Top Gun because Tom Cruise was in it. I wanted to see a bunch of F-14s flying around, and it didn't disappoint! Frankly, whenever anybody was playing volleyball or making out in blue light to a Berlin song, I was bored!

I might be upset if it's a bunch of fake CGI planes whizzing around. I will not be pleased if it ends up looking like Stealth with Jamie Foxx. But, I'd still see it anyway. I've loved naval aviation since Dad used to be a mechanic on Navy attack jets.

If they want this to be in any way realistic, the Tom Cruise character should be wearing 3-4 stars and running a command or a school.

Ugh. The F-14 was so fun to watch. I can only imagine the ultra secret F-9000 that they'll be "flying".

This is an opinion I can support. I remember watching movies like Iron Eagle and Firefox. When Top Gun came out in 1986, it was practically a documentary compared to every other aerial dogfight film before it. The only other film up to then that had any semblance of realism was The Final Countdown, which technically didn't contain any dogfighting.

I'm not a fan of the F&F franchise, but the original The Fast and The Furious had some cool street-racing scenes w/ real cars. In each subsequent installment, the cars become more CGI. Regarding Top Gun 2, I will see it if it brings something new to the aerial warfare table. If it looks like Stealth, which itself was a rip-off of Macross Plus, then I'll pass. I'll watch anime if I want to see CGI.

I saw Top Gun a couple of times when it first came out. I thought the flying sequences were great until I went to flight school the next year. Now I just cringe whenever I happen to run across it on tv. Still, it was a great recruiting boost to the Navy and plays well even today to the general audience.

No, I don't think I'll go see TG2, although may catch it on prime if/when it appears just for curiosity sake.

Ironically, Rob Cohen directed both Fast & The Furious 1 AND Stealth!

I also liked the dopey fun of F&F 1. I even liked the first drag race which used a lot of CGI. That car porn of x-ray shots into the gearbox or following the nitrous into the engine cracked me up. I wish they had more of those kinds of shots in the sequels, instead of the Rock surfing torpedoes on glaciers.

I also loved The Final Countdown. I'm also one of the few fans of Flight of the Intruder. (Dad worked on Intruders and Prowlers at Alameda NAS.) Heck, I even love Blue Thunder! (Can't go so far as to embrace Fire Birds. I have to draw the line somewhere.) Razz

That sounds like a good plot twist: a mature decision by an adult, followed by hard work and a stable career. They'll never include THAT in the film!

Th actual plot: They're all flying 737's for United, and sitting in bars telling stories of their glory days while on layovers.

Except for Iceman. He's working at a post office in Iowa.

Thanks, Mav, that was really great. Oh, shit! Maybe I should become a truck driver. Mav, do you remember the number of that truck driving school that was on TV the other night, Truck America or something like that?
