Such a good album. Naked Self is an excellent one, too, and heavier than the rest.

+2

and as a band, very under rated

Whip-smart too really.

OK, all of her music. Liz Phair can come over my house whenever she wants.

Ahhhhh - Liz Phair - I've loved her since I heard Whip Smart. She was (mostly still is) the best example of the mid 90s chick rock (post grunge???? *shrug*). I really liked all of those chick bands back in the day.

Yeah it's mostly a 'cover' album but A Perfect Circles 'eMOTIVe' - they did things on that album with those songs that made me feel things that the originals never did.

One album that stands out for me is Bill Bruford's progressive rock album "One of a Kind."

Fans of Allan Holdsworth may like this album. The other musicians besides Bill and Allan are Dave Stewart(keyboards) and Jeff Berlin(bass). They're all outstanding on this album.

Youtube link to the first song on the record, "Hell's Bell's". Warning, it could create a little bit of an earworm.

A few other albums are:

Lyle Mays - Lyle Mays
Donald Fagen - The Nightfly
Jethro Tull - Songs From The Wood
Yes - Close to The Edge and Relayer
Led Zeppelin - IV

Listened to this tonight for the first time in several years.

It grabbed the moment. IMO, their last great record, perhaps their best. Chockfull of great songs. Still a great record today.

Attempting not to duplicate previous submissions of some of my favorite albums.
In no particular order or style, there are some of the albums I always listen to all the way through, without skipping any tracks, every one of them fantastic in it's own way. There are a bunch of bands I didn't post up because their only 100% solid albums are "best of's" A few of the below might only be only 99% solid, and some of the albums listed aren't necessarily their best IMO, but these are the most solid albums AS albums, I did slip a best of in by Stiff Little Fingers, it was just too hard to pick 1.

Violent Femmes-Violent Femmes
Interpol- Our Love to Admire
The Go-Go's -Beauty and the Beat
The Damned- Machine Gun Etiquette
Concrete Blonde-Free
Dead Kennedys-Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables
Joy Division- Closer
Michelle Shocked- Short, Sharp, Shocked
The Sisters of Mercy- A Slight Case of Overbombing
Soul Coughing-Irresistible Bliss
No Doubt- Tragic Kingdom
Jewel- Pieces of You
Stiff Little Fingers- All the Best
The Jam- All Mod Cons
Tori Amos- To Venus and Back, Disk 2
Florence and the Machine- Lungs
Jesus Christ Superstar-Original 1970 concept album.

Gang of Four "Entertainment!"
Wire "Chairs Missing"

I also agree with the Yes selections above and would add "The Yes Album", although it took a long time for "Clap" to grow on me.

The way that music is made and sold now, we might not be aware of any whole albums of new music that are solid. It might not really happen anymore.

Not too many soundtracks qualify, but I'd put in:

The Harder They Come - was the first vinyl I ever owned and still a favorite

Romeo and Juliet - The Baz Luhrmann one. Solid soundtrack. I also love that movie.

I could be here all day making my list but I will say there are some bands still putting out solid whole albums.

My favorite is Queens of the Stone Age. Every album is solid and doesn’t get boring because every song is so different that a lot of them sound more like soundtracks themselves.

As for actual soundtracks themselves, The Crow is still routinely in my playlist.

I just got a turntable for my birthday from my lovely bride. I was thinking I only wanted to buy albums I could listen through from beginning to end. I’ll continue to check back in for reminders and recommendations.
