The others, in the interregnum, were each in their own ways somewhat
similar to James Bond.

Dalton was more like the books but got shafted story wise.

Honestly I don’t disagree with your sentiments but I have like all of them to one degree or another.

I dug Brosnon a lot.

Connery is Bond, though......period.

I thought Brosnan was the worst. Followed closely by Moore.

Dalton was great. Lazenby was also pretty good (for a guy who didn't really want the part). Connery WAS Bond, though.

Not for me, I've NEVER liked Sean Connery at all, Craig is decent; I liked Pierce Brosnan the best.

Brosnan was a little too girly and suave to be Fleming's Bond. In fact, in the books Bond is not particularly suave, he is just ultra manly. He's a hard drinker, he's rough and scarred, he loves to drive fast, etc. Of all of the films, Craig is easily the most like Fleming's Bond.

Brosnan got crappy stories to work with as did Dalton. Moore got some decent ones to begin with but got worse as he went along, plus he just got too old.

Connery has the enviable position of being first. Everyone is naturally compared to him and all but Craig fall woefully short. Connery was great and had some great scripts but even he falls short of Fleming's Bond.

In my youth, Connery was James Bond to me. But as time passed, and action films became more "realistic", I saw him as a bit corny. Craig is a flawed Bond, but IMO the best representation as far as Ian Fleming's vision of an assassin/badass. But the Bond paradigm is a bit dated, compared to the Bourne films, and lately the John Wick ones as well.

Connery is the standard but, the last two movies were forgettable not to mention the longer hair styles then made him look older than he should've been. I initially didn't like the selection of Craig however, after Casino Royale my impressions changed 180-degrees, I very much like his portrayal.

Moore interestingly is actually older than Connery but, he kept his youthful looks and was defined by the chic, suave debonair aspect of Bond. Unfortunately, his movies don't age well as they're centered around gadgets, comedic relief, and repeating characters instead of actual plot. Brosnan I liked initially but, as time goes by, he looks more like a more athletic, attractive, smarmy-version of Moore's Bond and not of a sophisticated-mission focused operative that Connery/Craig brought to the role.

Lazenby and Dalton are largely forgettable because they lacked any on-screen charisma, it didn't help either that the scripts they got were pretty bland. Dalton to his credit attempted to return Bond to a more serious, action role but, his overall demeanor was somebody who lacked any flair or, character, he was all business and had no time for nooky.

Of the four principal Bond actors, I think all four had to deal with major issues off-set, whether it was writer's strikes, ego's dividing the production company, or capitol issues with production; each of them resulted in dud movies as a result.

Brosnan was OK as Bond, but the movies just sucked ass.

I didnt think Dalton was bad either. Connery and Craig are probably the two best

As cslinger posted, Dalton got shafted w/ weak stories. I thought he was a great choice to play Bond. He wanted to be the Craig/Fleming-type Bond, but the producers wouldn't allow it.

The Living Daylights came out during the peak of the AIDS/HIV crisis. The producers & writers decided that a bed-hopping, womanizing Bond was inappropriate for the time. That's largely why Dalton lacks the demeanor & flair that you criticize.

I never liked Brosnan as Bond. I think Sean Bean would have made a much better 007 than Brosnan. I believe he was under serious consideration, but Brosnan was the bigger name, and producers had wanted him all the way back from when he was still under contract to Remington Steele.

I have no special knowledge or insights to supply here, just my opinion. For me the swaggering playboy, somewhat vapid personality and occasional killer Bond is not that interesting to me anymore.

The hardened killer, with deeply walled off emotions, and occasional womanizer as needed is the more enjoyable to watch Bond for me, which is perfectly represented by the Daniel Craig Bond.

Never read the books. Tried to read Moonraker, I think, but got bored.

Thunderball is THE BEST James Bond movie, of course. Connery was excellent, and being 'first' cemented his role and influence, and made him the standard by which all others will be judged.

That being said, my second favorite Bond movie was "Living Daylights." I thought it was really good, and Dalton played his role really well. This came out when I was a teenager, and was the phase in my life in which I liked these movies the most. My interests in the franchise slowly declined thereafter. Dalton's second movie, "License to Kill," just plain sucked. Not even Connery or Craig could have saved that movie.

I did enjoy Roger Moore's movies, but I was younger when they came out. So, I could watch "Moonraker" and think it was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen (4th favorite Bond movie). Now, it's just plain cheese, ESPECIALLY the inappropriate humor moments (like a PIGEON doing a double-take at seeing Bond's gondola drive onto dry ground). I really love "Man with the Golden Gun" (3rd favorite). That is my favorite Moore movie. I mean, Herve Villachez, Christopher Lee, a flying car, AWESOME title song. . . I was too young to be creeped out by Roger Moore hooking up with women that could have been his daughters. It almost makes me forget that the bubba southern Sheriff from "Live and Let Die" was crammed in there. . . And, I first watched it as a teen when the flash/bang stuff and gimmicks appealed to me most.

I liked Brosnan's Bond, but only saw one or two of them. I thought "Goldeneye" was fairly decent, and I might have seen one, MAYBE two other (the last 3 Brosnan movies just sort of blend together, and I really lost interest in the franchise at this point).

I did see Quantum of Solace (went with a group 'against my will'), and I hated it. I thought Craig was a good actor, but I thought the plot sucked, there was too much spastic hyper-speed action (I could never follow who was hitting who), and I had passed the stage where I really liked that kind of movie anyways. So, I'll let others judge him and his characterization (I was disappointed to learn that Craig had to have a modified car, since he couldn't drive stick shift).

Well...here we are again.
1. Craig - My favorite and the best. He did have the advantage of more realistic action scenes compared to the other actors movies.
2. Connery - He did a pretty good job at setting the standard for a playboy, super spy.
3. Moore - I give him 3rd because he had a certain quality that made his movies fun to watch and they were the first ones I saw as a kid.
4. Dalton - I've moved him up a spot from the last list. He was an okay Bond but very forgettable movies.
5. Brosnan - Lame and he was just too girly.
6. Lazenby - Who?

just a suggestion,

quiet day, no distractions,

pop in Casino Royale,

a day or so later, the next,

until you finish all the Craig Bonds,

then do it again a bit later,

one thing I do like about them is they pay homage to the 'originals' (little easter eggs of sorts, ) and they go much deeper into who Bond is and where he came from,

Judi Dench is damn good as M as well

I've always felt Craig's popularity is based on the fact that he reminds you a bit of Steve McQueen. Wonder how McQueen would have been as Bond ?

Austin Powers was the best Bond.
Craig played the other side of the coin perfectly though.
