Moore was Bond to me because he was Bond when I was a kid. I liked Brosnan and always wondered why he wasn’t Bond earlier. As I got older Connery grew on me much more. Never liked Dalton. Haven’t seen any Craig movies.

At this point I'll take any Bond with a Y-chromosome.

McQueen's attraction was he was the 'everyman'...his best characters was the normal, work-a-day Joe, nothing complicated, just getting through life with as little complications as possible. While he did an admirable job as Thomas Crown, his personality and charm were more of an uncomplicated, regular guy, even his lines in many of his movies are short, not bogged-down or, overly polished.

Contractual issues with previous commitments

I read somewhere that Brosnan was pegged to be the next Bond after Moore retired. But, he was contractually obligated to the tv show Remington Steele. Dalton took the next 2 films, until Brsnan was free.

Because of my age, Connery has always been Bond but Craig tagged it to. I have just recently been able to tolerate Moore... even though I think his movies might have had the best collection of Bond Girls....

That Walther PPK (sex in a holster?) just bothers the heck out of me...should have been a Sig P230 now that's a truly sexy pistol...... Connery was the best Lady Killer of them all.

Goldeneye came out in 1995. Bean didn't have the reputation as 'the guy who always gets killed' yet, although movies such as Goldeneye and Patriot Games were putting him on the road there. He certainly wasn't a meme. I stand by my words.

I believe Moore was supposed to be the 1st Bond, but his Saint contract killed it.

Connery was great but he had all the good scripts back then too, as already pointed out.

Lazenby could have been good. OHMS the script was great - followed the book very closely too and he did most of his own stunts too.

Dalton had shit scripts - although License Revoked was the best Bond since OHMS, with Robert Davi playing the best bad guy since Savalas' Bloefeldt in OHMS.

Bronson was ok I guess but crappy scripts.

Craig I was dubious on, more so since the game in Casion Royale was to be Texas Hold'em and not Chemin De Fer as in the original book. Grrrrr.

But I saw the movie and was blown away. They stuck to the basic storyline enough for me. When I saw the torture scene in the movie, that was it. All time number 1 Bond movie for me. When the book came out in '56, that scene was highly controversial at its time.

Craig has had good scripts. Dame Judi Dench is the best M since the original - hell, she is as good as the original.

I read all the books, plus most of the John Gardner Bond books.

Connery and Craig are equal in my view as Bond, with Dalton and Lazenby distant seconds, and then Moore - but his storylines were just too comical. Moore was great in the Saint series, which I own on DVD.

The real debate should be on favorite Bond Girl.

It's a tie for me. Daniela Bianchi and Diana Rigg. Too bad Luciana Paluzzi was a bad Bond girl.

Craig even got the greatest Bond girl... Eva Green as Vesper Lynd.

As a child in the 60's, when I hear "James Bond", the image in my head is Sean Connery.

Pierce, I walked out of the theater. To this day I can't watch any of those. That guy is a hack at best.

I grew up when the Moore films came out so Craig, Moore, Connery, and I don't even count Pierce's bs. I’ll be the odd man out, I liked Dalton better than any of them.

I loved bond as a kid and Roger Moore. But now I just cant get past he age and the over relaince on gadgets.

I have enjoyed Daniel Craig's stripped down version the most of any.

I did not hate Quantum and Spectre as much as some; it’s a tossup between Casino Royale and Skyfall for me, but I think I lean towards Skyfall. Even though I grew up in the 80’s, Daniel Craig will always be “my” James Bond, with Sean Connery a very close second. I just did not enjoy the campiness of some of the prior Bonds, Craig brought it home full circle for me.

That said, try as I might, I could not get into the final movie. Maybe because the ending was spoiled for me by the internet and I could not wrap my head around everything that was going on…plus the nano-bot thing reminded me of a Star Trek episode- they tried too hard to include too much and I just could not get into it. At some point, maybe this weekend, I’ll pour myself a long bourbon and sip my way through it.

Re: Continuity

I know I’m not the first to suggest this, but I’ve always believed just like Q and M are code name designations that can be interchangeable by whomever is filling those roles, so is “James Bond”. In the Bond the universe I believe in, the 007 destination is similar to an MOS, difference “double-oh’s” have different specialties based on the final number of their “double oh”.

Goldeneye was the first Bond movie I saw.
Craig was a great fit, and I recall hearing an interview when Craig was cast that Bond shouldn't turn heads when he enters a room [Connery & Brosnan] and should be a more low-key persona.
Have only seen a few of the early movies.
Haven't read the books, but have a couple of the really old issues somewhere around here.

I am glad to see Dalton getting a little bit of appreciation. The Living Daylights is in my top five Bond movies.
