To grab software developers attention good enough to become essential.
I've seen VR/3D glasses come and go since the Doom days and IMHO nothing beats a decent sound track with even a cheap audio headset as far as immersion goes.

What would be your dream peripherial - accesory to highly impro your gaming experience?

Mine would be a true 5.1 or 7.1 headset, so you could have the full audio experience (complete with body-vibrating bass) of the game or movie without disturbing others in the house.

But that's not possible. A good audio setup in a soundproof room is more realistic. Big Grin

There are multi-speaker headphones available but don't know how well they'd work for reproducing three-dimensional sound effects. I use the Kinect on my 360 simply to easy control of my video watching experience, but have a friend who uses it extensively for gaming. And you never know, with the debut of the Nintendo Switch we might see a resurgence in positional gaming.

I've never been much for building scripts for games, but would like to be able to use a gaming keypad more extensively without having to do all the scripting myself.

is that like what I have in mind? Full sensory immersive 3-D experience. I'm sure the porn industry will be the first to champion it.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." High quality 3D virtual reality would make first person shooters cool as hell, I think.

And whoever said a good sound system makes a lot of improvement for a moderate cost is right. Directional sound and good thump for gunshots, explosions, and creepy noises from stage right makes a big difference.

I said "full sensory immersive 3-D experience."
Porn, food appetite, and war have always been the pushers of cutting edge technology.

And then some. Check out Black Mirror on Netflix. The "Playtest" episode. This tech is driven by a horror-reality gaming company.
