I heard that Aronofsky started a campaign to get professional wrestlers included in the screen actors guild after he researched the sport and found out how many of the old guys are in desperate straits with no health insurance.

Not sure how far he got or if it's still going on--I'm sure Vince McMahon is opposing the idea with every fiber of his being--but from what I've read about some of these poor guys, it's not a bad idea.

I thought it would be crap and was surprised. I rather liked it.

Him walking to that job, felt like I was walking into it, made my stomach hurt.

And I liked the way that drug dealer guy chimed off every drug/steroid ever invented in a monotone nonsensical kind of way. That was great.

Marissa was lookin good.

I'm neither a fan of wrestling nor Mickey Rourke yet I have to say I think this is one of the best movies I've seen in some time.

You really feel the emotional desperation and physical pain of a broken life, in every sense imaginable, with little hope for the future while left clinging to some small bit of glory from the past.

Very well made. Excellent flick. Rourke and Tomei were good in it. Tomei does look a lot better than most 40 year old strippers would look, though, but it is hard to complain about that.

You guys are easily entertained.

I'll bet you think "Grand Torino" has Oscar quality too, don't you?

...like that would've been difficult. "The Fountain" sucked eggs.

The Wrestler was heads above Gran Torino, which I thought was stilted and fake. Plus of course Marissa in a total "broken glass" woman. I will go see anything she is in.

I watched this last night.

A very good film, very well acted. Mickey Rourke really looks like he's been beaten with chairs for 25 years!

Don't bother if you want a thrill a minute fight fest, but thought provoking and very moving.

Two thumbs up.

I finally got a chance to see The Wrestler last night. What a great movie; they really captured the grittiness and grayness of New Jersey and what a great, if not sad story. Big bonus of seeing Marisa Tomei in her birthday suit, she still looks damn good!

He was one of my favorite actors in the 80's and starred in some of my favorite movies of that period. Rumble Fish. Year of the Dragon. Angel Heart. And of course Barfly.

I'm glad to see him getting major roles again. Many people compared his onscreen presence to DeNiro back then and I thought he was one of the coolest actors I'd ever seen, and still do. I remember when I first saw him after many years in Man on Fire and thought he deserved another shot. I felt bad for him and the choices he made in his life. The Wrestler is sorta his mea culpa and its all there onscreen.

I really liked "The Wrestler" also.
Just a simple good movie.

For years it seemed like Rourke was a Hollywood joke.

He caught my attention the last few years with (of course) "Sin City" and his suprisingly un-macho character in "Once Upon A Time In Mexico".

I think the pacing was appropriate and helped the viewer get into the Randy character who was experiencing more or less the same thing: a pace slower than usual. In the viewers' case, slower than usual movie pacing. In Randy's case, slower than his life on the wrestling circuit.

mickey rourke's best movie was arguably the biographical "barfly" of renowned existentialist author bukowski. i did see "the wrestler" and he was believable as a very sad man with many regrets; he knew his life was ultimately a futile effort; the redemption was achieved by the stripper and he was the instrument of her moment of clarity.

Outstanding film. I guess we are all looking for different things in a movie. This one seemed very realistic and true to life. And also seems to become a parody of Rourkes career.

Grand torino? Very forgettable.
