I will be watching. I know a lot of folks poo-poo the show vs. the books, but I think it's entertaining. Looks like some of the trailer is very akin to the scene from Clear and Present Danger when they're in the vehicle convoy and get ambushed.

I enjoyed season 1, but looks like Ryan is turning into Clark.

Isn't that the same neighborhood from Triple Frontier? LOL

Yeah the scene with him in tactical gear? What? He was a badass analyst. Not an operator. But it does seem like they are making him into Clark.

I will watch. There were some parts of season 1 that bothered me, and one particular thing I almost could not forgive...that said, it was way better than most of the crap on tv, so I’ll watch it

Start a pool!!!! My money is on James Greer being a Muslim or the drone pilot taking his Vegas winnings to Syria or wherever that was.

Spoiler alert:

A marine officer, tasked with retrieving and escorting a valuable target to safety, who disobeyed his orders and brought along someone other than his charge, which, in so doing, resulted in the death of an air crew, the vital cargo he was tasked to protect, and his marines, would NEVER get a clearance to be a cia analyst/operator...he would, at the least, have been dishonorably discharged. More likely, he ends up in Leavenworth.

FWIW: I had zero issue with Greer as a Muslim, and although the drone pilot story was irritating bleeding heart BS, it wasn’t fatal to the story...just completely unecessary

There were only three novels in which Jack Ryan actually saw action, only one of which truly focused on him. The rest of them involved all the characters that surrounded him. Yet, they keep pumping out all these films and television series that focus soley on "super operative Jack Ryan." It's annoying.

What little action he did see was anchored in training from his days in the Marine Corp. In the film "Jack Ryan: shadow recruit" they make him a trained field agent. But he never was a field agent. Just an analyst.

I have wondered if the new writers are even using the canon of Jack Sr. or if they are just making up the character as they go and just using the name.

I enjoy it for what it is, instead of looking forward to what he is supposed to be. Otherwise, it sucks big time.
Greer being a muslim is fine. Religion, faith and fanatism are different subjects and the wise man can differentiate and work with all of them.
Jack's boy scout looks clash with his sporadic operator circumstances and we see too much of those. He's supposed to be a Master Desk Rider not a pointman into every shit storm available.

Just MHO.

The film/television character is more in line with Jack Jr.

the other major departure is the job of Cathy Mueller

in the original series she was an eye surgeon

in this series it appears she works in infectious diseases

agree with nhtagmember

However, the departure from books/movies are secondary to the action, which is what we are looking for.

I did read most, if not all, of the original books, so I noticed.

I'm pretty sure that was supposed to be Jack Jr.

Cathy's career has never had an impact upon the Jack Ryan series other than making her a target for the IRA during her commute to/from work (I forget which it was). So it isn't necessary for her to be an eye surgeon.
