Netflix Ozark fans. Season 2
It totally pissed me off.

Both from just LAZY writing, and having ABSOLUTELY ZERO actual knowledge about the area.

first bitch... THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY A BOAT CAN BE TOWED FROM THE SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI RIVER TO LAKE OF THE OZARKS. IT IS LITERALLY NOT POSSIBLE AND THE RIVERS IS NOT NAVIGABLE.

Second, the background foliage is piss poor. This was filmed in the south, not in MO. THe trees and ground cover is all wrong. and all wrong for the season.

OK, now for some different ideas.

It may be in the "bible belt" of the county, but the AVERAGE house on that lake in in the hundreds of thousands if not millions. There is not a single "redneck, trailer trash, uneducated POS" on that lakefront." Hell, that is the goddamn problem with that lake and the reason that lots of people stopped going there. It is filled with Yuppie idiots and people who are too goddamn drunk to boat properly.

The portrayal of MO residents is as insulting as the crying liberals who decried society when they lost their asses. They decided that central, flyover America was nothing but stupid redneck racists. This is what this show gives.

Fuck Netflix. Fuck the writers.

If they had spent at least 48 hours in MO, much less 48 hours within 30 mins of this lake, they would realize how shitty their conception is.

Next time they want to make a regional drama, her is a suggestion. ACTUALLY FIND OUT WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT, INSTEAD OF LOOKING LIKE FUCKING MORONS!

Pathetic.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the set was built north of Atlanta, Georgia. It was better financially for some reason.

Not sure how foliage and navigable rivers are deal breakers. Whoever has lake front property may be one thing, you don't have to get far off and there's a whole world of mobile meth labs, opioid abuse and all the trappings of backwoods America. Did you also hate "Winters Bone", same setting more or less, fantastic movie about the same people.

I grew up urban, Chicago, high school and beyond in small town, backwoods southern Illinois, not so different than rural Missouri and that is undeniably two different worlds. I have no problems with "Ozark's" portrayal of rural Missouri, I know these people.

The one ongoing theme to this show is the Byrde's smug interactions with the locals and, you know what, the locals seem to be a step ahead on a regular basis. The clash of cultures is a big part of the appeal, the one thing that sets it apart from its doppelganger "Breaking Bad".

You're an urban guy, right, KevinCW, metro-east and south county? This show can't be a reflection of you, I think it's better than your giving it credit for.

I'm an "urban redneck." Razz

However, I did grow up on 100 acres of land and spent many a day out in the woods with specific instructions not to get my ass home until dark, but I better be back at EXACTLY dark.

My girlfriend actually did grow up in rural MO, and she was partially (I wont' say offended, but put off by the portrayal) She found it exaggerated to say the least.

And you missed some of my first, and biggest gripes. THe lack of local knowledge about the terrain, and hell, the literal navigable waterways... or the prices around the lake. There aren't "lakefront trailer parks." The stuff on the water, or within a mile or two of the water, is horrendously expensive.

If you go out about a 20 minute drive away from any shoreline??? THere ya go, you have hundreds of places that would look like the Langmore's.

If you are gonna mention specific places, I expect some research and accuracy.

Damn, dude. It’s just a TV show. The plot is kinda crazy but it’s cool. Relax.

What specific places, Lake of the Ozarks? It's a HUGE lake with a massive shoreline, I doubt either of us have "researched" the entire thing. That said, you expect? Eek

I'm from Franklin County, MO, the front door to the Ozarks, I think it portrays the indigenous personnel of the area pretty well. The cars are too shitty though, 1980s cars that ran were all cashed in during Obama's Cash for Clunkers. It should have more late 1990's Grand Ams, Sunfires, and Cavaliers. That is the daily driver of that socioeconomic class.

Also, when you get more than an hour south of I-70, people start getting "southern." IIRC, grits and sweet tea are pretty common in Springfield.

I like the show. MO is a shithole that I never intend to visit, on purpose

If it wasn't for temporary suspension of disbelief TV shows in general wouldn't be any fun at all.

You're right, I'm just wound up a little tight lately... Enjoy the show.

Disregard, nothing to see here.

What I didn't like about season 2, is it seemed that just one person....after another.....after another was getting killed. Like, really can't they think up more stuff than that to film?

beyond that, it was just EXTREME decisions, and betrayal decisions.

And the "local" matriarch of the crime family who killed her husband. They spend so much time for 2 seasons on how they love each other so much, compliment each other so much, have hte same goals so much... and then starting with the last 5 mins of last season she starts doing stupid things on impulse and ruining everything, culminating in killing her husband.

Seems extreme.

Yeah, it's not like everyone watches a Netflix show at the same time on the same day.

Finished a couple of days ago. It was entertaining enough, but not great. The most interesting part to me is actually the relationship between the two main characters, and how they are each navigating the treacherous waters in which they find themselves.

While everybody else is worried about how the people of the Ozarks are portrayed, and relationships between characters......

I'm still trying to figure out how they're going to operate a casino on that itty bitty boat.

The plot is getting way over the top, but it is kind of fun. I haven't finished season 2 yet, either.

THANK GOD I'm not the only one thinking the same thing. That boat is very small for the intended purpose and intended local growth.
