I liked it. The majority of the political stuff was low key, the militant “hate the white guy” stuff was from the movie’s villain, and it was, as has been said, not overly corny

I liked it better than Civil War, and much better than the second Guardians movie

The jury seems to still be out. Lots of people are flocking to go see it.

Personally, I really enjoyed it.

The actor who played the villain ruined it for me. That guy is a shit actor, all his lines were delivered the same way, basically. He was crude and ghetto. I've seen betting acting in porn than his "acting."

He was pretty damn good in the wire and Creed.

I'm very interested to know how a country in Africa is the most technologically advanced in the world. Would make sense if it took an infinity stone to get them there.

I'm afraid it's going to be preachy, but I'm curious, how bout you?

His casting in this was terrible. Coogler and him are besties as this is I think film #3 of them working together (Fruitvale Station, Creed, and this) so Jordan had the role before anything was planned out. Edmond is correct about him in this.

There was some white colonizer bs in it but as was said, that was killmonger, the villain with that. I thought the movie was good just not great. Coogler isn’t experienced enough to tackle such a technological marvel. He did OK, but this could have been a really great film, up there with Dr. Strange. With the exception of Jordan, the casting was well done. The story was simpleton, basic, kind of like they dumbed it down for mainstreaming purposes. Some of the directing was meh. Some real good scenes then some not so good. Boseman was excellent in this film and carried it like he did in Thurgood Marshall last year, and James Brown before that, Jackie Robinson before that, he is reliable for the roles he gets. And he had to carry this because Jordan’s casting was awful, all the way down to the silly haircut. Just out of place and out of his element. He needs to stick to contemporary roles. He ruined this for me. There were a lot of things briefly gone over so there is so much material left to discover in the next one. Hopefully they’ll get a better director next time.

My days of watching big budget mainstream stuff in the theaters are over. I said months ago this would be the last film I pay Disney on. They’ve ruined Star Wars and they operate their company like some thugs. Disney was an early adopter to outsourcing their IT departments. They implemented shadowing. They partner up with an Indian company, offshore what they can, then they bring in H1B visa FOBs and you have to train them to take your job. If you don’t do it you are let go. If you’ll train the fob to take your job they give severance. Shit practice and they are bathing in money so taking away hard working American jobs is bullshit. I loathe Disney and any other company doing this.

Lastly, two women were next to me on my row speaking Chinese the first 10-20% of the film. Finally I had enough and yelled “shhhhhhhh”. Got that stopped and some girl on my row broke out her phone for 5-7 minutes straight. Screen so bright I could make out her entire face 100% in a dark theater. As the last act started there were some teenagers or kids being chased by a matriarch. Some big drama, kids stomping up and down the steps to get to the rows, some weak parenting. There was a commotion on that side and for a brief second I won’t say I didn’t think about an active shooter situation. This type of bs doesn’t happen at the independent film showings, the serious films, that get Oscar considerations. I will still go to see those but I’m out on Disney anything or anything big budget. There were trailers for Ant Man and Wasp, Venom, and I’m like how many fucking SuperHo things are y’all gonna make? The theater chains need to put an employee in the theater to watch for talking or smartphone use. I’m sick of it. The g damn projector starts and first thing on the screen is shut the fuck up, put your phone away or better yet turn it off. They show this multiple times and everyone knows it before even driving up there yet they ignore courtesy, don’t give a shit about you or anyone else and break out their narcissism. No more for me. It’s a lose lose situation. You correct someone it sometimes leads to confrontations. You get up to get an employee you miss a key scene. I’ve had to do that before, get up to put a stop to some belligerent bs. Find the manager, kick the person out but by that time I’ve missed enough to ruin the whole deal. Get a pass from the manager but Disney won’t allow any passes for 17 days after release so unless you pay the Disney thugs a second time you’ll need to wait 2 1/2 weeks. Just not worth the effort or money any longer. Will wait on the disc from now on.

Saw it last night. I thought it was pretty good. I didn't like how easily the Wakandan council was swayed to Killmonger's view of the world, even though the point was made that at least one member had thought that way for a while.

I think what people here are talking about is the underlying feel of the African-American "us vs them" mentality that pervades all of Ryan Coogler's movies. The guy was born and raised in Oakland, CA and definitely seems to have a chip on his shoulder regarding the perceived oppression that African-Americans have against whites. It doesn't help that Michael B. Jordan has starred in two of his previous films because it seems like he's fully embracing that train of thought in his acting during these movies. I don't see it when he's not directed by Coogler.

Anyway, I do see the underlying message in this film. It was there enough to bring down the experience for me but maybe there are some of you who can ignore it and watch it. If you do, stay for at least the first of the two Easter Eggs in the middle and end of the closing credits. The second one doesn't really push the MCU story in any direction and can be skipped.

Guess this is a good time to sign up to vote.

Black voter registration effort launched at ‘Black Panther’ screenings

An activist group has launched a voter registration effort aimed at black voters at screenings of the “Black Panther” movie nationwide.

Members of the Electoral Justice Project, an offshoot of the Movement for Black Lives, are seeking to motivate black voters and increase political engagement with the #WakandaTheVote campaign, the website Blavity reported.

Saw it, enjoyed it. I thought they did a good job balancing the political stuff.

Most of the bad stuff came from the bad guy. Guy wants black people to rise up and commit genocide? So what, he's the villain.

It seemed to me that the thrust of the movie was about not holding on to old grievances and finding a way to move forward for the betterment of everyone.

AND, this is why I don't go see first run movies until they've been out for at least a month and only after 10pm, thus insuring no kids and very few idiots.

Woman Opened Fire At "Panther" Flick
Gunfire followed dispute over assigned seats for superhero tale

FEBRUARY 26--A North Carolina woman is jailed on multiple felony charges after she allegedly opened fire in a movie theater during a dispute over assigned seats at a screening of “Black Panther,” according to police and court records.

Investigators allege that Shameka Latrice Lynch, 30, squabbled with other moviegoers around 11:45 PM Friday at a crowded AMC theater in Greenville.

During the dispute over seating arrangements for the Marvel superhero movie, Lynch allegedly pulled out a .32 caliber pistol and discharged the weapon inside the theater.

Lynch, seen above, fired one round into the theater’s ceiling, police allege.

While the shooting resulted in no injuries, Lynch has been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill (prosecutors have identified the victims as two men attending the “Black Panther” showing). Lynch is also facing a third felony count for discharging a weapon in an enclosure to incite fear.

The shooting prompted police to evacuate the entire 12-screen multiplex.

Lynch surrendered to police Saturday evening and was booked into the Pitt County Detention Center, where she is being held on $250,000 bond. Lynch is next due in court on March 14.

I would agree. I went in to be entertained, and I was, and I found a minimal amount of leftest tripe to annoy me in this film. And no demonstrations or such out side the theater, thankfully.
