Don't laugh, but Manilow came out with a jazz album featuring a LOT of guest singers and instrumentalists...notably Gerry Mulligan on baritone sax and duets with Sarah Vaughn and The Velvet Fog.

Too many to mention. I don't have a favorite. Most of Coltrane's stuff, Sonny Rollins' stuff. Herbie Hancock in the 60s and early 70s, Weather Report, Mingus, the list goes on. I don't think a jazz fan has a favorite album.

Indeed, and don’t shy from new stuff. Even Queen Latifa did an album of standards that was quite good. Diana Krall and Melody Gardot are current faves.

I'm not that knowledgeable about modern jazz, bUt I am knowledgeable about film, and my favorite jazz score from any film is Miles Davis' sparse 26 minutes of music for Louis Malle's precursor to the French New Wave- Ascenseur pour l'Echafaud (Elevator to the Gallows)
Here's a clip of Davis recording the sound track in a Paris studio at 3 in the morning. As the story goes, Davis improvised all of it. Louis Malle appears briefly at the end of the clip.
Here's the entire sound track. I wish it were longer. This has better sound quality than in the previous clip.

Miles Davis' Kind of Blue is my single favorite jazz album, nothing comes close. I listen to it at least 2-3 times a month. His Ascenseur Pour L'Echafaud album is a current favorite. Benny Goodman's Live at Carnegie Hall is another one I listen to often.
One not mentioned that I listen to regularly is Duke Ellington (with Charles Mingus and Max Roach) Money Jungle.

However it only goes back to 1965 and many of the finest predate 1965. I have very many of them.
