Steely Dan.....tied with Dire Straits as the most overrated band in the world.

Apparently knowing how to actually play ones instrument is not appreciated here. Big Grin

Steely Dan has Chuck Rainy, which makes them ok in my book. No reason not to like all good music.

As well as having well written lyrics that are sung not screamed isn't appreciated either.

+1. They are excellent collection of musicians. I've been a big fan of "The Dan" since the late 70's. Seen several shows. If you've got good audio equipment, your probably a fan.

If it's got t*ts or a motor, it's bound to give you problems.

I've always preferred artistry and individuality above technical ability. Hence my dislike for the overwhelming all consuming popularity of American Idol in today's culture. But I don't see why someone can't appreciate punk as well as Steely Dan, ELO, or whatever for what they are. Punk is in fact counter to this formal (almost fascist) belief in what music or art is supposed to be. Like what YOU want. Liking Steely Dan when everyone tells you you're not supposed to is "punk" in my book.

I can appreciate accomplished musicianship and composition, but man, listening to Steely Dan makes me want to gargle my own balls.

OK, I own the Steely Dan box set, and over the years their sound grew on me.

But, first and foremost, I'm a punk fan who grew up in the '80s punk scene when there still was one.

It's OK to like both. I like Steely Dan and recognize their musical talent, but I *love* punk. Smile

Chuck is a great guy in addition to being the most prolific bass player in history. He lives just a few miles down the road.

+1

Reeling in the years, and do it again, were 2 songs I remember my parents playing back when I was a kid, (they bought the album when it came out)

I bought Aja album when I was in high school,

I don't think they are overrated (dire straits either) but I think both are underplayed,,,,

I used to be disgusted,
