Today was the anniversary and we were going to go hiking but weather was crap.
So we went and saw Angel Has Fallen. Pretty decent action flick even though the story line has been used time and time again.
Assassination attempt on a high up official and someone close is framed for it.
Saw it in some super XD Digital theater that cost $2 extra each ticket sound was quite stunning not sure video was any better. $4 probably better spent on popcorn.

Didn't realize it was out. Thanks for the reminder! Will be watching it tomorrow afternoon.

I just saw it. It wasn’t bad. I had more fun watching Hobbes and Shaw. Nick Nolte was good for a laugh or two.

I agree. But there were a couple of good laughs from a couple of people. Even the scene at the dad's cabin - every pepper's wet dream.

One overreach was how the dad meets the wife.

Along was couple of wtf moments like the scene where the FBI helicopters into the compound.

I liked the hard location choice

Nolte was a hoot!
While completely random the float tank scene cracked me up. I have been wanting to do one of those.

I had no idea this was a new movie. Is this is a sequel, because I swear Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman were in a presidential protection / invading bad guys movie a few years ago.

...looked it up. Olympus Has Fallen, 2013 (man that was 6 years ago now?). I think I watched it, but the only thing I remember was that it was forgettable. Should I brush up and watch this one before heading in, or are they unrelated?

No need to watch any other movie as I haven’t.
Not heard of that movie before. When finding the trailer for this I found a movie called London has fallen with Butler and Freeman but I don’t think the characters are exactly the same.

Agreeing with the above, you'll have the plot and antagonist pegged in the first few minutes of the movie. Still, I really enjoyed it. Nolte was great, especially considering the lack of character development.

London Has Fallen? Looked it up, 2016.

Are we in the most low-key action film trilogy of the decade?

edit: looked up all 3. Butler plays Mike Banning in all 3. Morgan Freeman is Speaker, then VP, then President in the 3 movies.

edit2: His wife was recast after #1 and is in all 3, I didn't see any other consistent characters between the 3.

Interesting.

Guess I’ll check the other two out at some point.

Angel has fallen marks the last movie I will be seeing in theaters for a while. Between the PC crap in the movies (Russian Collusion and all the other little barbs), the price of admission even for a matinee, $35 for popcorn and cokes, and now assigned seating, I'm done for a while. I could really almost put up with the other crap, but having assigned seating is a deal breaker. It is really about being forced to sit next to rude people who talk constantly, stay on their phone the entire movie, and the like that kills it. Before this assigned seating crap, I could just move to a different part of the theater.

As to the movie, yeah, it's a decent action flick. Has lots of SIG pistols in it.

Saw the first, missed #2, and will probably see #3 at one of the $8 for veterans shows.

I think Aaron Eckhart played POTUS in 1 & 2.

This isn't Masterpiece Theater, it's an action movie; I see no need for a coherent plot or dialogue, just lots of gunfire and explosions. Smile

FYI- The wife is the same in the first two movies. Piper Perabo stepped in on this one.

Was a good movie for a quick action junkie fix. Unfortunately, you know within 15 minutes who’s involved in the conspiracy.

Agree with both, but there's lots of action to make up for the predictable plot.

Slight thread drift: Some of the scenes were filmed in the UK at what used to be RAF Upper Heyford. A quick shot showed some ammo magazines, longer ones featured the hardened aircaft shelters (HAS). I got a tour of the base last year.

Assigned seating is a big plus for me. I get to choose my seats way beforehand and I can walk in 15 minutes past start time and skip the previews. If I have a problem with someone in the theater, I just go tell an employee and let them deal with it. The theater experience now is so much nicer than it used to be. I also like being able to not bother going if there aren't good seats available (i'm about 45 minutes from a decent theater).

Spoiler alert:

I like these movies and can suspend a fair amount of logic and reason for the sake of enjoying the film, but I couldn't get past the oxygen thing in the hospital. I just kept thinking "if only there was some way to turn off the gas supply, like a valve or something"

I buy our tickets online so the assigned seating is kinda nice in one respect that you don't have to show up early to get a decent seat.
Doesn't help with rude folks though. So far I've been lucky on that one.

I haven't seen it yet but intend to. I love Butler in these movies. I thought the first one was great, the second OK, and hoping this one is at least good. I always wanted Butler to play Jack Reacher. Much more believable for anyone who read a book.

In response to one poster, "Why would you want to miss the previews? Like mini movies."

Skipping the pc part, I've actually grown to like the assigned seating. I can buy the tickets via Fandango ahead of time and select the seats.

The seats are reclining chairs. Big screen. Dolby Atmos. and if I want, I can push the button for someone to take food orders.

Tickets are $10 each plus $3 for Fandango. and refillable popcorn is $8.

Yes, it's pricier (for us) but it makes the experience so much better.

Also agree on both points.
Still liked it.
FWIW, had a $25 Comcast freebie coupon plus a $10 concessions coupon too, so minimal impact from movie-inflation.
