saw it yesterday and loved it. my favorite parts where the pencil magic trick, the jokers froglike licking of his lips (just weird), why so serious?, and the close up image of the joker in the nurse outfit is burned into my memory. awesome.awesome.awesome. it was like ronald mcdonalds as a tranny crack addict.

a few things bugged me.. batman's voice, that lack of lethality from the batman gauntlet blades shot @ the joker, and the copycat batman stuff was totally unnecessary.

RIP Heath Ledger - this was one hell of a swan song.

I've heard a lot of people say they hated the voice. Yes, it was a bit grating. But it was totally necessary to keep the realism of the film. Bruce Wayne and Batman are both very high profile figures. Just the voice alone could tip someone off that they are the same person, plus you can see the entire jaw structure of Batman. For a character as dark as Batman, the overly raspy, masculine voice is a better choice as a disguise than, say, a velvety, almost feminine voice.

Outstanding movie. Best of all time? No. But a great movie regardless. I think it's defiantly one of those movies that could benefit from renting on DVD to watch a few times to really take it all in.

All characters were very well written and I think it's had to say better comic book villains have ever made it to the big screen. Joker isn't on par with the greats, but hes not many steps below either. The writing for the part was awsome, and Heath brought it to life supurbly.

Two face as well was great. More time as two face would have been nice. But the sudden snap had an appeal as well.

I've been wondering who they can use for the next movie. Johnny Depp as The Riddler? I can see it.

Batman sequel to The Dark Knight: Johnny Depp to play The Riddler?
Johnny Depp is being tipped to play The Riddler in the sequel to The Dark Knight.

Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker has set the bar high for Gotham City villains, but reports in the US say studio bosses have set their sights on Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.

"Producers are convinced that the role of The Riddler is perfect for Depp. Johnny's a pro. He'll be able to take direction and still make the character his own. And what better Penguin is there than Philip Seymour Hoffman?" a source said.

They could be joining Angelina Jolie - the actress is reported to be after the role of Catwoman.

The Riddler was played by Jim Carrey in 1995 film Batman Forever and Frank Gorshin in the Sixties television series. As for The Penguin, he was portrayed on the small screen by Burgess Meredith and in 1992 film Batman returns by Danny DeVito.

Plans for the sequel are yet to be announced but it is likely to star Christian Bale reprising his role as The Caped Crusader.

The Dark Knight has smashed box office records in the US, taking $314 million in just 10 days.

There is even talk of it challenging Titanic to become the biggest movie of all time. Titanic took $600 million in the US. The Dark Knight certainly looks set to reach second place in the all-time chart and beat Star Wars, which made $460 million.

I didn't even notice the voice thing when I was watching the movie. Until I heard people mention it (mostly here, but some reviews) I didn't even notice it was different.

I think it fit the character perfectly. He needs something to disguise himself, and it is a very dark character. Batman is based on revenge. A gravelly voice fits. It wasn't silly like Superman being the exact same guy without glasses.

Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin

I would take such speculations with a grain of salt. Nolan has said he wouldn't do the Penguin, as the character is too campy and not realistic enough to fit the direction he is going with Batman.

I would love to see Depp as the Riddler, but Nolan has also stated a desire to incorporate more villains that have yet to be seen on the big screen.

This has got to be the best movie I have seen in a very long time.

Ledger absolutely lived up to the hype, no doubt.

I think I was the only one to laugh out loud at the dissappearing pencil trick Big Grin

I saw the movie about a week ago and now i'm trying to convince the wife to go see it again at the IMAX, don't really have anything to add to other reviews but i would like to say i like the direction a lot of newer movies are going. What i mean is take a look at the 3rd and 4th batman movies most of the gadgets where just unbelievable and while amusing at some point just seem stupid. Batman Begins and TDK have much more realistic gadgets and better writers and actors. I believe this is also true for the 007 series, while i like Pierce Brosnon as an actor the last two movies he did in the series were the same, gadgets that were unbelievable (invisible cars and a grappling hook in the watch) and lines that were beyond corny. But with Casino Royale they did the same as batman begins, brought it back down to earth added a since of humanism to the characters. Sorry to defer from the subject but just my way of saying TDK was a great movie and i think there are more great movies to come from these series.

We saw it last night. It was entertaining no doubt, but I would fail any test given concerning the plot/storyline.

Thayer, it is a movie you must see more than once to grasp it all. Once you do, you'll see that it's a pretty deep storyline. I've seen it six times now and I'm still picking up details I'd missed before. I don't see this as a weakness of the film but as an incentive to go again. It's worth the effort.

Because it's that good. So few movies are worth seeing even once that when a good one comes along I go several times. This one needed multiple viewings as the plot is multi-layered.
