Quick question, so I will understand. How was the murder solved in the first two seasons when we saw the fresh body stuffed into a golf bag and being driven around in this new season???
Did I miss something last night, or should I just shut up and watch the first two seasons.

Either I missed golf bag scene, or it's in part 3 or 4...?

Season 1 starts with a murder mystery which is solved in season 2. That being said, plenty of mystery remains right up to the end of season 2.

OK, I watched it. First off- it looks like David Lynch is trying to out-David Lynch David Lynch.

Secondly, I certainly hope the twenty-somethings out there have their Ritalin handy, because they'll need to take an extra dose before enduring those ridiculously, unnecessarily long pauses in the umm "action". Is Lynch getting paid by the minute? Otherwise, all the fucking staring at each other doesn't do jack squat to advance the plot or keep the audience awake. Am I supposed to believe that there's some underlying meaning to characters staring at each other for several seconds?

Additionally, Andy and what's-her-name should go do something useful, like not showing up on on camera at all. "Hey, where's Andy and what's-her-name?"
"Oh, they're on vacation- a long, long vacation. Matter of fact, I think they moved to New Zealand."

I was a fan of the original series, and looking at the bizarre mix Lynch has so far offered up, I cannot imagine trying to comprehend this series without being familiar with the original. Fortunately, those episodes have been airing on Showtime. It's odd to see those episodes after so long, but odder still is what Lynch is now giving us.

He needs to pick up the pace a bit.

^^^^ I've read that there are some rewarding payoffs to what's being set up, in part 4, which is already available on demand.

Well Rusbro, I really braced myself this time. As I began watching episodes 3 & 4 tonight I promised myself that there will be NO MORE blurting out "WTF!" I imagined the most horrible images possible. The most terrible images I could see. I was ready.
Until David Duchovny showed up in drag..... Oh well I'll try again in episodes 5 & 6 I guess.

There's a block in Episode 4 that's really going to set you off, and I hate Andy and Lucy far more than you do. I want to see them raped and murdered by Bob, and even that's too tame.

Pace gets picked up in Eps 3 and 4, but don't expect it to turn into 24. We may get to see a person only mentioned in the original in Episode 5.

So far, this new series is a highly pretentious waste of time.

This pretty much sums it up. I can't think of much more to say. I'm going to keep giving it a try, especially since we turned off cable TV a while back Big Grin

My wife and I watched it. I'm still "in" but not sure about my wife. It's full-on strange, almost for the sake of being strange. I get that, but it kind of needs to pick up at least a little, and get a little more "grounded" in some kind of reality.

Showtime couldn't come to terms with The Man From Another Place, and since they've got something like 280 actors who exist for a 2 minute scene and go away, you can't win them all.

Yea, I never saw the original series back in 91-92 so after starting to read this thread and the suggestion to do so, I went back and watched them all. Then started watching the new series. My observation is that season 2 of the original got more and more strange the further it went along and boy is the new series out there.

No shit! Confused
I never saw the original and was going to ask if seeing the original clues you in on the story or it just let you get used to the bizarre-ness?
I've watched this latest thru part 4 and still haven't a clue. Frown

Spoilers follow, but here's my take as someone who's watched the original, Fire Walk With Me, The Missing Pieces (about 90 minutes of cut footage from Fire Walk With Me that helps out the movie and what's going on a lot), and read The Secret History of Twin Peaks by co-creator Mark Frost.

Season 2 ended with real Dale Cooper unable to get out of the Black Lodge after saving Annie. Instead, his Doppleganger (herein referred to as Cooperganger) beats Coop to the exit, trapping him in the Black Lodge an earlier prophecy mentioned by Laura (I'll see you again in 25 years). Cooperganger is Bob's new familiar after Leland Palmer died so he can feed on pain and suffering.

Day after this, Major Garland Briggs (actor Don S. Davis, father of Bobby Briggs) notices the wrong Cooper came back from the Black Lodge, backs up his work, confronts Cooperganger and mysteriously dies. Dale Cooper officially goes missing and Cooperganger starts his new life of crime.

[Note: Actor Frank Silva, who played Bob, died between seasons, otherwise we'd probably see more of him with Cooperganger, especially when he kills Amanda Seyfried in Parts I and II. I'm also going to cover what I think the main story is because it has the most threads to link back into the original story. I'm not sure how some of the side stories tie in yet].

25 years pass and it's time for Cooperganger to come back to the Black Lodge and let the real Cooper back into the world. Cooperganger knows this and has a plan to make sure he can stay out. He heads away Twin Peaks and the Black Lodge. He also has a decoy (Dougie Jones) incase Cooper is able to escape.

Since Cooperganger didn't return to the Black Lodge, Cooper can't leave the Lodge like everyone else can and the "powers" (not sure what to call them) try to get him out in a different way (thru nonexistance). The plan works, but instead of swapping with Cooperganger (although it looks like it almost happened), he gets swapped with Dougie Jones. Cooperganger has planned for that to happened and also has associates there to murder him, as the scene later indicates one of them has to die to balance things out.

Cooper's also damaged at the process and not all of him either made it out, or he has to relearn himself. (We saw in the original people or beings enter and exit the Lodge with all their marbles. The unconventional way forcing Cooper probably ended up with some side effects). Cooper also seems to be guided by the powers from another place as it saves him from assassination by Cooperganger's flunkies and they guide him through the casino to Dougie's home/wife/son with a bunch of money/resources.

Cooperganger has a car accident and injured from Cooper's reentrance to the world and gets arrested for several crimes and probably has his fingerprints connected to the murder of the principal's wife and that gets back to his old boss Gordon Cole and friend Albert Rosenfeld. They go out to see Cooperganger in prison and no that isn't the real Cooper. His mannerisms are wrong. He mentions he's working with Phillip Jeffries (David Bowie's character from Fire Walk and yanked in and out of the Black Lodge).

Neither Albert or Gordon are buying it, and the pieces all seem to add up to a Blue Rose case [Shown in Fire Walk With Me. Gordon Cole refers to the Teresa Banks murder through code as a Blue Rose case. Teresa Banks was the first woman murdered by Bob/Leland Palmer a year before he raped/murdered Laura Palmer. Likely cases that are way f'ed up with some supernatural element.] Both of them also decide a certain woman needs to see Cooperganger before they proceed.

I am 95% certain I know who they're talking about, but I'm not telling who. If you're a real/true Twin Peaks fan, you should know who I'm talking about.

That's what I've got so far on the main story. If you've got other questions, I'll try and help out, but most of the side stories are just guesses on how they link into the main story. I can spoil the contents in the Secret History were compiled by several people titled as "The Archiver." Agent Tamara Preston (Chrysta Bell's character) is the character that fact checked and footnoted the entire novel. How she ties into the rest of the story remains to be seen.

Based off your initial post - I spent the last week and a half watching season 1 and 2 (never watched the show). Last night I watched the first episode of season 3 - and was like WTF. If it is odd, strange, weird they are after - they nailed it. Hopefully it gets better.

Watching it all doesn't hurt. There was a lot in Fire Walk With Me that Lynch was going to follow up on, but the movie tanked and almost 1/4 of the movie is WTF?.

Episode 4 starts putting together some of the pieces, but like I said earlier, the pace hasn't turned into 24. I do wish Lynch and Frost got to the point a little earlier. There's too many new questions with not enough of the previous ones answered.

I'm not crazy about how many of the previous characters seem to have returned only for them to have 1 scene and then disappear. I'm hoping they play a little more in the mystery than just a "One and done."

Something else I'm getting tired of is the "In Memory Of" at the end of the episodes. Not that they shouldn't be doing that, but it just get depressing getting reminded of how many folks have died in between seasons.
