The Americans - Season 5 starts tonight on FX.

I think this is the last season. I can't wait to see how they end it. I'm not sure if I want them to return home, get caught, or decide to live as real Americans. I mean, they are ruthless bastards to be sure, but they are likeable and do have some redeeming qualities.

Just remembered that I missed the saeson finale last season, will have to catch up on Prime, unless they're running a marathon before the premiere.

I so want to see them get nailed but I'll bet they don't. Kind of expecting an ambiguous ending which will stick in my craw.

I watched from the beginning but have always carped about it. Finally, last season had hints of decent dialog and humor. I keep seeing ads where some claim this is the best show on tv. It's not.

For all it's shortcomings, caper scenes are always the worst. Kind of a sin on a show about capering spies.

Last show's hole digging scene was the worst ever. What, ten minutes?? And who brings snacks on a caper?

^^^ I like the show and enjoyed the premier, but yeah, the hole digging scene was inexplicable. I thought surely they would run out of time or tire out or something and almost get caught, that there would be a dramatic payoff for spending so much time on that, but nooooooo.

Bug scene last night was interesting. I think I'd have went nuts.

Was that little thumb and forefinger trick at the end suggesting something else altogether?

This was my thought as well. Initially thought they were going Ripley's way, though.

**SPOILER**

It seems they're building the whole season on the notion that Reagan/the USA are out to sabotage the entire Soviet agricultural effort and starve millions. Is there anything to suggest that happened or is it a typical leftist canard to create merciless oppressors? The show seems to be swallowing it hook, line and sinker.

I suspect that it will turn out that the Americans are developing pest-resistant crops rather than weaponized bugs.

I recall hsaring of Soviet grain shortages in the '80s in the news, but I suspect they were largely due to the flaws in centrally planned economies, such as in the Soviet Union, i.e., socialism.

The Soviets had perpetual shortages of food purely due to their command economy. I remember reading about them losing entire crops of potatoes due to them rotting in the ground because they didn't have enough equipment to get them out of the ground because the current 5 Year Plan decreed they build more tanks and fewer tractors. They would even make the Soviet Army go and dig potatoes by hand but even they couldn't keep up.
