Marlin 1894 CSBL
I recently picked up a new Marlin 1894 CBSL .357 Magnum. I robbed a Vortex red dot off of one of my ARs to see if I like it. I've got 200 rounds of .38 and 5 rounds of .357 through it. It is very polite! She is a beauty of a gun!

Walked it in. The loader gate is still a bit stiff but the action is so smooth, I felt like Chuck Connors!

Sweet!

Now if they’d make it in 45 Colt!

I don't care for the big loop. Personally, I wish they had made it with a 20" barrel so that it would take 10 rounds of .38's.

I'm with Rolan, but I bet it is a sweet shooter.

Nice.
I have similar gun in 45/70. The rail needed Locktite to secure the screws.
I did take the lever out and buffed out the tool marks on it and the side of the bolt.

I like the shorty 1894’s. Very little is gained from the additional 4” of a 20” barrel, ballistically speaking. I hunt with mine in somewhat thick cover, so a stubby 16” is the perfect size. Only thing I don’t like is the curved grip. An 1894 should only have a straight grip- leave the curved pistol grip to the 336’s! Big Grin

As do I, and I love it.

I want the 45-70 SBL next! I'm not sure what I'll use it for though. It has passed my mind to carry one on my jetski out in the ocean in case I'm am accosted by a great white!

I've been eyeballing these. Looks great, and believe I read somewhere the recoil is so light even with .357 magnum. There was one in the Classifieds for a great price, but I dragged my feet and am now kicking myself. Oh well. Was trying to just move on, but now I want one again. Looks good with the red dot, too.

To be honest, I was turned onto the gun from the movie Wind River, where Jeremy Renner's character uses the 1895 version.

Nice, I’ve been waiting on those. It’ll go nicely with my 586 L-Comp.

Does the loading gate/port bite your fingers?

Its tight and hard on the fingers. I've got about 285 rounds of .38 and a few of 357, it feels slightly lighter. I'm hoping it will lighten up over time.

That is nice. Short barrel is the way to go for a woods walker. I have a Winchester Trapper 357 I have on the 4 wheeler when I head out.
