I ordered a standard left side Colt safety lever last night.
I am going to replace the ambi one currently installed.

Me too, I find the ambi kind of gets in the way.

A shorter version...Colt SOCOM, 14.5" pinned to 16"OAL.

If you decide to part with the ambi, or want to trade it for a regular #Coltsnob safety, I know a lefty that will make it happen!

I already ordered the standard Colt safety.
I appreciate the offer but I will put the ambi safety in a bag and put it in the buttstock compartment.
That way, one of my daughters can return it to the original config if she so desires.

Thanks though.

I also have already changed out the buffer spring to a chrome silicon one.

Problem with Colt is how expensive parts are.
But I can deal with it.
Colt safety levers from Brownells run $18.
A USGI generic is about $4.

LBJ, Being the snobbish Colt fanatic that you are, Wink What have you heard about the mid-length gas CCU gun? Are they out yet, how are they running with Colt's first middy gas?

I'm wanting to order one, but not sure if the Talo CCU is up there with the rest of Colt's AR's. Appreciate your advice, in advance.

I will leave that answer to others, I am not that knowledgeable about that.

Thank you, I haven't found any first hand reports. I'm guessing not on the market yet.

You probably should. You wouldn't want one of them to be shorted, would you? Big Grin One with more Colt swag than the other.

Nice choices, all the same. Seems like it's hard to go wrong with those.

They are on the market! But after rolling them out it's been pretty quiet. Guess they were way late to the party, and not much new to really say, I'm sure it's a fine AR...I wouldn't mind one. Kinda hoping the price will eventually settle down.

I'm kind of curious to find out if you like it better than the Sporter you mentioned having had.

I would rather have a non flat top upper receiver with only incorporated rear battle sights. If I had a choice I mean.
Then it would be just like that old Sporter, except for the color, it was gray.

It's just fine though, I get the throwback look as well as have the rail system for optics if I so desire... but I never will.

I have to admit though, I liked the old Colt gray color than the more modern black version offered.
I wonder if Colt were to go back to gray if civvie sales would increase.
That color really did set them apart.

I know para loves that old color too.

LBJ why not consummate your Colt love.
Yes sir a prancing pony tattoo would do.
I will be proud to help finance. Wink
Ok enough natter. I have had a rather bad Colt contagion since my very first gun, a Gold Cup.
For me there is a strong visceral connection with owning a Colt and to a lesser degree a S&W and Browning.
Beautiful rifle sir, enjoy.

Oops.

Glad my wife didn't see or hear that.

I already have a new rule that was instituted recently.

By day 10, all firearms must be removed from the island in the kitchen.
Or was it day 14?
I guess I will put the new rifle on the island and Mrs.LBJ will let me know the day it must be moved.
While I may have forgotten, I highly doubt Mrs. LBJ has.

Time to get a bigger night stand.

Really.

I was able to test fire the new Colt AR15A4 this morning.
40rds of IMI M855 went perfectly.

In order to test it, I used a relatively new bolt carrier from another rifle and used the original AR15A4 bolt.

Not a complete Colt as it's currently sitting atop an LMT Defender lower and uses a full auto LMT BCG, but I love my M16 take off upper I purchased back in the day. Similar to lbj's, basic hand guards and carry handle. Love the retro look, though I did get some strange looks the first time I took it to the range from the tacti-cool crowd. Need to get a good pic of that and post it. Yours looks great.
