Opinions on this Lower
I am in need of a lower for a AR upper I am getting from a Karma "creslin" gave. is this lower build a good buy? This will be my first AR and I am not looking for all the bells and whistles.

If the upper is a carbine gas system, you are good go.

Yes, it's a good buy. It will work with any 5.56X45mm(.223 Remington), .300 AAC Blackout, 6.5 Grendel, 7.62X39mm and a bunch of other upper.

Just to hijack this a small amount...

You'll also need a BCG (bolt carrier group) and a charging handle.
The upper has an A2 front sight post - but no rear sight.
So some sort of sighting system will be needed (flip up rear sight.. red dot... scope.... etc)

The lower doesn't care what upper is on it. The buffer and spring are matched to the buffer tube length.

I have two of these lowers and they work great.

Well I do have a red dot from another Karma I will try. And looks like Palmetto will be getting a few more dollars from me.
I guess this is how the AR "Madness" starts! Smile

They had premium bolt carrier groups last weekend for $69 with free shipping. Might check to see if that is still the case.

That's a good BCG, and a very good price.

I used that lower with a PSA Dissipator upper, though I did change to an A2 stock a while back. Also used that BCG.

Well after Palmetto finally got off their frozen butt's and shipped me the final parts. I got to shoot my "New" to me upper and new lower yesterday. Put a red dot sight on it I won in a Karma back in May of last year from PHPaul. And it was a treat to shoot. Sent a couple hundred rounds downrange and could not be happier. Thanks Sigforum!

Why carbine and not mid-length or rifle?
Do you have to change out the buffer/spring to use the other gas systems?

Midlength should be fine.

But rifle system uppers with carbine lowers have caused problems for some folks. I'm guessing mostly with slightly underpowered handloads.

Folks will chime in that the Canadians use a carbine lower with rifle upper and that is true. They use an H2 buffer IIRC AND MOST IMPORTANTLY I believe use only NATO spec ammo. The latter is, i think, key.

I shoot very little military surplus ammo and almost no factory of any other kind. I shoot handloads ranging from a variety of powerlevels and that is why I steer away from the carbine lower/rifle upper configuration. A lot of factory .223 is lower power than NATO spec stuff as well, so that could present a problem tho some fellows report zero problems with anything they feed their guns. It's not an issue of the guns being useless but rather an issue of possibly losing 100% reliability.
