Today I was on the Ruger website and they had a link to send the CEO a message. Anytime I am given a chance to talk to anybody at Ruger, I always tell them that they need to make 20 and 30 rounders for the Mini-30, so I sent that message to the CEO. I recived this response a few minutes ago.

quote:
Dear Mr _______

We have made the investment in tooling for 20-round Mini-30 magazines. I am hopeful they will be in production within about 30 to 45 days, baring any surprises.

Best regards,
Mike Fifer, CEO

That makes me pretty happy. Not only that they are making them but also that my message was actually read and responeded to as quickly as it was.

That IS good news! ...been waiting for that! Now I will finally get one of those Mini 30 guns. I have a bunch of ammo for my AK, and now i can get a second gun without having to have a new caliber!

This is great news. I really hope they also invested in the tooling for high capacity 6.8 mags as well. I will be investing in a Mini-30 in the coming weeks. I have never cared for AK47s or SKS's (sorry to those that love those guns, they are great firearms, I have just never been into them), but I like the caliber. I have never bought a Mini-30 because of the lack of reliable high capacity mags. It looks like Ruger has fixed that.

Pale Horse;
I just emailed Ruger on-line customer support, and got a completely different answer from yours.

"We have no plans at this time...blah, blah, blah..." My guess is the on-line support crew has not receiver word about the new mags.

New Ruger website came out. 20rd Mini-30 mags have come out too apparently. Don't see it on shopruger.com yet, but they're now selling mini-30s with 20rd mags so I bet you'd be able to buy a mag with a phone call.

I never thought I'd see the day. Now they need to make 20 round mags for 6.8 SPC.

Wow. No decent capacity magazine was the main reason I have shied away from the Mini 30. I think it would be a great little rifle in that caliber.

Love the two 5.56 Mini's I have.

Finally. I have been checking every week or so to see if it was true. Looks like a Mini-30 is in my future.

Thanks for the update Marlinspike.

A Mini-30 is in my future if they come through as well. I've always liked the Mini platform just not the magazine issues.

How much will they cost?

----------------------------------------------------
Now you will receive us. We do not ask for your poor, or your hungry. We do not want your tired and sick. It is your corrupt we claim. It is your evil that will be sought by us. With every breath we shall hunt them down. Each day, we will spill their blood till it rains down from the skies.

Do not kill, do not rape, do not steal, these are principles that every man of every faith can embrace. These are not polite suggestions, these are codes of behavior and those of you that ignore them will pay the dearest cost. There are varying degrees of evil, we urge you lesser forms of filth not to push the bounds and cross over, into true corruption, into our domain.

For if you do, one day you will look behind you and you will see we three. And on that day, you will reap it. And we will send you to whatever god you wish.

If Ruger was smart, they'd have re-designed the Mini-30 to take AK mags and re-designed the Mini-14 to take AR mags and they'd never keep these rifles in stock.

...seriously.

Since you work at Ruger....
any chance you can explain to me what exactly this Lean Manufacturing is? I saw a video on the Ruger website about it. The guy talked a lot about it, but at the same time said nothing.

Basically it's a build it as they order it type of manufacturing.. instead of building up a large inventory and then sitting on it.. production is stream lined and more organized, with a closer eye on solving QC issues and cutting down on scrap and wasted time.. It is a good idea in theory but turning around a company like this isn't easy I've only witnessed the changeover the last couple years that I've been here.

It really does end up with a better product for you but at the same time, all the cheapened things they are doing to keep the prices lower is seeming to erase all of that, such as the 10/22 with the plastic trigger guards and ugly finish..

Plastic trigger guards cheap? I like plastic trigger guards, they seem not to get damaged as easily.

CDNN has been selling real Ruger mags since Oct 2004, they're not that hard to find. The down side is the cost any were from $30 to $50. Not bad for a rifle that shoots minute of pie plate. Razz
