It really is perfect! And cheap. To be 100% honest I'm not even a member. My best friend steve is, and I go as his guest. I've been going for nearly 10 years and the RO's (when you see them which is rare [they drive around checking credentials but don't sit and watch you shoot], say I'm there more than 99% of the members). I haven't joined myself because they want you to go to a few meetings before joining, with my work schedyle that's not really possible. Let me know when you'd like to go.. we try and make it there 2-3 times a month (usually 2, rarely 3-4) and steve can rake 3 guests

We PA guys should have a get-together! Cool

I live about 20 miles from Quakertown. Doing some sporting clays at Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays near Allentown would be fun as hell in the fall too.

I have been wanting to get back there for a while now. I'd definitely be up for that!

I'd totally be down for a PA get together. Seems like there's a decent amount of members from our area.

Big Grin I'll tell you what though. I had to put some moleskin on the front where your knuckle goes. Mine was black and blue after a half dozen shots haha

I'll bring the semi auto as a backup! When we were shooting it, one of the RO's stopped by to bullshit and was looking it over. apparently the previous saturday there was a guy using one at the weekly clay shoot Razz

Lets set it up! I may be dreaming, but would a weekday work? I'd take a day off of work for it. The weekends get so crowded so fast. And maybe I can break 70 this time Big Grin (I'm terrible at sporting clays)

I'm totally down. Currently, weekdays and weekends are just fine with me.

I don't have a particular place I belong or go to regularly, so I'm good to go anywhere.

In my neck of the woods, showing up on a clays course with a scattergun that doesn't have a full shoulder-capable stock and/or doesn't have a barrel that's at least 18" long, will earn the shooter a quick escort from the property.

Muzzle control is safety fundamental -- IMO people with shorter guns in clays ranges are more susceptible to poor muzzle control.

One of the ranges that I’ve shot clays at forbids any barrel that is less than 26” long unless it is a youth model. I had a 590A1 with 18.5” barrel that I had to leave in the car when we did trap.

I've been on skeet fields where inexperienced shooters couldn't remember to not point full-sized shotguns at other people. Shorties would make it that much harder for those maroons.

Btw, what shooting range are you at?

Sorry I missed this! It's called Ridge valley rod and gun club. It's right outside quakertown, is a private range nobody is ever at, and is $60 a year. When I say nobody is there, I think the most people that have been there when I am shooting is 3-4. They have a 25, 50 and 100 yard rifle range, trap, and pistol ranges with steel targets. It's my little slice of heaven. If you want to give it a "shot" we can set up a weekend to bring you as a guest

Do either of you guys shoot at LRGC or Falls?

The reason they are legal is that according to federal law a shotgun must have a butt stock. These virgin 12 ga. receivers have never been fitted with a stock and are a firearm (not a shotgun). A firearm >26" OAL may have a barrel of any length (regardless of caliber).

A firearm of 26" or less falls under the any other weapon (AOW) rules and may be carried concealed. Neither the Mossberg Shockwave or the Remingtom Tac-14 may be carried concealed (without obtaining an AOW stamp).

The above is not a "new idea". A gunsmith around Atlanta was making 14" bbl. bird's head grip 'witness protection' shotguns in the 1970's(?) using new Remington 870 receivers.

There is a Youtube video showing a guy shooting skeet with a Shockwave (and doing pretty well). So don't think you can't hit anything with one of these.

According to Remington's website, the Tac 14 has an OAL of 26.3" If it is not an AOW in any sense, you are saying one would need an AOW stanp to carry it?

I've seen that video.

That guy is no stranger to shotguns. He's quick getting a gun up, moving with the clay, and breaking the shot at the right moment. This ain't his first rodeo with a scattergun and clays -- well, at least straight away rising shots. He appears to have issues with falling clays.

His speed to break the shot, combined with the gun's open choke, really helps in hitting clays. In the rare clays tournament where I see shots like that, even lesser shooters shoot very well in such stations. The other shooters in the video are as slow as molasses in breaking their shots. Given the guns the other shooters have, if they had the skills of the Shockwave guy, they should be crushing the clays before the Shockwave guy can.

By the way, the video is decidedly not skeet. It's a hand-thrown (even when a gal steps on the thrower mechanism), straight-away, non-varying trap shot. True skeet involves shooting from 8 different positions in a semi-circle, at clays coming from two different (nearly opposite) directions. The Shockwave guy may do fine with skeet's stations #1 and #7. Might hit a few on stations #2, #6, and #8 with some practice. He'd have some serious issues with stations #3, #4, and #5.

True trap would be an issue with a Shockwave, too. Instead of standing right next to the thrower, he'd be at least 16 yards back. Clay flight direction would be with a random 45 degree arc. A lot of trap clays will land on the ground undamaged.

As for a true sporting clays course -- and I don't mean a "fluffy" course meant to stroke the egos of beginning shooters -- a shooter with a Shockwave will be missing a lot of birds.

A lot of states issue a concealed handgun permit.

If this is classified as a "firearm" and not a hand gun it would be illegal to conceal it in those states. (I would "assume")

Firearm laws are sometimes complicated.

If you have an Ar 15 pistol that is less than 26 inches you can not have a vertical fore grip installed. But it is legal on an AR 15 pistol over 26 inches. But installed on an Ar 15 over 26 inches it changes a pistol to a "firearm and makes it illegal to conceal. An angled fore grip is legal on any size AR and does not change the classification of the weapon.

So I would really check out the legal implications of carrying the not a shotgun "Firearm" loaded in a vehicle in the State you intend to carry it in.
