I just received my rifle from WCA. First let me start by saying this is the rifle SIG USA should have built in the first place instead of the franken gun they are selling.

The first thing you notice is that the paint does not match perfectly. But as Sako pointed out this the same for factory 55x guns as well. The paint job is similar to original 55x guns I have seen in the past. The lower has a ting of brown in the gray and the upper is more gray.

Second the its a lot lighter then the 556 commando that I also have. Its a lot more nose heavy as well, like the non-commando 556s with the large handguards. But its points naturally and the trigger is wonderful.

Upper and lower have no fit or play problems at all. Tight as a drum.

You can tell the lower was a FA model as there is a pin the plate that limits travel of the selector.

The rear stock is a beautiful and folds and clicks into the front handguard.

I got a 30 round magazine with mine but Lance has stated that you will either get a 20 or 30, luck of the draw.

I am estatic with my rifle thus far. I think this will be the closest that I will get to a factory original 551. If it shoots as well as my 556 I will be happy.

I am going to replace the flash suppressor and put a bayo lug in. I also have a rear and front sights on order.

I am not going to put pics in since the other thread had better pics then I would have taken myself.

"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks." Congrats on your new purchase!!
I KNOW you will be happy with it!

11K is 2.5K cheaper than they were a couple of years ago. It looks, to me, like this particular genre IS being affected.

ARDOC
Thanks for the update, myne was delived today to my FFL. I hope to pick it up tomorrow.
I agree this is what many SIG fans have wanted from the beginning.
I doubt that they will tool up to do this lower version, but if they do and they sell them for less than half of this price I wont complain. If nothing else I have a collectable and rare piece and I am one step closer to my wish for a 100% swiss 551.

Good point, I saw that too in the pictures and I was/am puzzled. I thought after the '89 ban only LE/PD departments could purchase new units, and those that I have seen pic of have "not for export blah blah" on the upper receiver? I wonder what the story is on these two 11K specimens?

The BAD, the front handguards are still loose like the 556.

Dont like the parts bin flash hider. Now its interesting is that this flash hider is more polished then the one on the 556 so I think they made an effort to use primo parts.

The rocking motion of the mag really sucks.

Mags are expensive!

Obviously no diopter.

Well I picked up my new 551 from the FFL and after taking a look at it I am very pleased with it. My upper to lower finish is so close I cant tell a difference in regular lighting. My only complaint which I already knew is that the gas block is not swiss or painted gray. But the fit and finish on it is superb. I took it apart and ogled it yesterday and simply wow. As close as I can get to 100% swiss and be under 4K. Now I just need to find a Swiss gas block and Swiss 551 BUIS. I wish I had another liquid 4K as I would buy another one.

I'm surprised to hear the mags in the swiss 55x lower rock. To those that have original 55x models, is this typical?

I do believe, that as the current law reads, only LE etc can import these types of rifles. Once they are in the country they can be used and/or sold as normal. Therefore, if you work for an LE and you can convince them that they need some Swiss Sigs, and they import them, they can legally sell them to you or anybody else at a later date if they decide that they don't benefit the department enough etc. They are not treated the same as Class III type weapons, the ban is only on the actual importation of them. I may be wrong however so don't take my word on it.

Nope you are spot one.. In fact, you're one of the FEW people, I have experienced on any forum, who actually seems to understand the import ban.
Once LEGALLY IMPORTED the weapon can be possessed by anyone who can legally own a firearm of this type in their city, state, etc...

Good, I was hoping that I wasn't passing along faulty information!

This is the very reason those post 89 DOJ HK94s are out in civvie hands right now.
Thanx to this provision, HK had to have cleared a $2000+ profit on each of those guns. If they were REALLY smart, they'd be in the USED gun business right now. It could just save their asses.
