You can always run an ACOG with a Aimpoint Micro on a offset mount. Not cheap but does give you close to the perfect solution. Not cheap and probably not light.
I thought about doing this though. Sorta like this http://sigforum.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/630601935/m/7231085331 |

I have thought about mounting a secondary optic for under 50 yard type shots.
However, if I do that I'm going to ramp up the primary optics magnification. The example in your link doesn't make sense to me. Why waste the money/space/weight and only get a fixed 3X? If I do that I'll go with a Night Force 2.5-10x24 NXS and then a T-1 on offset. That way I have reach out to the limit of the round and have the surprises covered with the T-1. This is a very expensive route to go. $1400 for the NF and then 700 for the T-1 and mount for a grand total of 2100+ in optics. I could always sub a Accupoint for the NF and save $800. ___________________________________________________________________ Prayer of The Citadel Give me a boy, Oh God, who is willing to learn the true value of honor, the necessity of perseverance and loyalty, and the meaningfulness of devotion to God and country. Into this ingot of a man I shall temper self-respect and self-discipline, fear of God and respect for mankind, appreciation of freedom and awareness of what sacrifices must be made to preserve freedom, and above all an insatiable desire for truth and honesty. I don't know about the TA33's, I have a TA31F though but I'm thinking about waiting for the RCO Flashkill to become available then I can cap it and use it as a OEG.
If you're really wanting the best of both worlds then I suggest getting the Schmidt & Bender Police marksman 1.1-4x20 Short Dot. Arguably the best of the best. |

This one's a work in progress.
I'm actually building up a SBR which will take the optics from this one. Then she'll get a 1x-4x magnified optic to make better use of the barrel. |

I just can't justify that cost (S&B Short Dot). I can buy two set of optics for that price.
I am hunting for optics for both my Colt 6920 and a long range optic for my RRA NM A4. I think I have decided on a 1-4 optic for the 6902. One of the following (I'm leaning towards the Accupoint due to cost). 1. NightForce 1-4x24 NXS With LaRue Tactical LT104-30 - $1,315 2. Leupold Mark 4 1.5-5x20mm MR/T M2 WITH LaRue Tactical SPR QD Mount 56994 LT104-30 - $1,039 3. Trijicon 1.25-4X24 AccuPoint with German Crosshair # TR21-3 and LaRue Tactical LT139 Mount - $779 For the RRA NM A4.... (Leaning towards to Leupold 4.5-14x50mm again due to price) 1. NightForce 3.5-15x56 NXS with LaRue Tactical LT104-30 - $1,617 2. Leupold Mark 4 8.5-25x50mm LR/T M1 Illuminated TMR Reticle W/LaRue Tactical SPR QD Mount 60065 LT104-30 - $,529 3. Leupold Mark 4 4.5-14x50mm LR/T M1 Illuminated TMR Reticle scope WITH LaRue Tactical SPR QD Mount 60000 LT104-30 - $1,374 ___________________________________________________________________ Prayer of The Citadel Give me a boy, Oh God, who is willing to learn the true value of honor, the necessity of perseverance and loyalty, and the meaningfulness of devotion to God and country. I was very close to buying an Accupoint instead of my ACOG. I was waiting for the German #4 but couldn't wait. Almost went with a Aimpoint Comp M4 but again I couldn't wait for the 'Bravo'. Although if I was going to go with the middle ground between the S&B and the Accupoint, I'd probably go with the Leupold MR/T. If you don't need magnification, I'd still go with an Aimpoint Comp M4 or a T-1. You could also go with a 3x flip-up multiplier but those are $$$. |

I wish I knew someone who had a Accupoint. I'd even settle for an account from someone who actually used an accupoint in harsh conditions for extended periods of time.
The Leupold is no doubt the best for the money. The NF is the best of the 3 and the Accupoint is acceptable especially given the price point. I do want the magnification. There is no doubt about that. I have a LNIB EoTech 512 I'm going to list up here in the next few days to begin raising funds for the new optic. I might even sell one of my AK's to help offset the price of the NF. ___________________________________________________________________ Prayer of The Citadel Give me a boy, Oh God, who is willing to learn the true value of honor, the necessity of perseverance and loyalty, and the meaningfulness of devotion to God and country. Ill Dill:
My go to rifle is also my patrol rifle. Not a huge amount of stuff and no photos but here is the list: DPMS A15 (yeah, it works, 6920 on deck shortly) Surefire M500 Larue fixed rear SP rear (no flip) Aimpoint M2 in Larue mount Magpul CTR commercial Tactical Link X360 sling setup Rugged, durable and set up for the ranges I expect to encounter in my beat. My BUIS sits in the lower third of the Aimpoint. Aimpoint has been good until recently. Dot illumination issue. |

Morris,
Don't sweat the DPMS. I had one and although I only put about 200 rounds through it it was super accurate and I never had an issue with it. If your betting your life on it I would get it checked out by an armorer to be sure the gas key is staked good and that everything is in order. Soulds like you have a great setup for your purpose. How do you like that M500? I have a line on a M500AB at a great price and have thought about it a few times. ___________________________________________________________________ Prayer of The Citadel Give me a boy, Oh God, who is willing to learn the true value of honor, the necessity of perseverance and loyalty, and the meaningfulness of devotion to God and country. I doubt you'd be dissappointed in an Accupoint. They are decent glass and a decent reticle. Some consider them Hunting optics but they are more then that. If the Accupoint behaves anything like the ACOG's, it would be good. I do like how you can adjust the exposure on the fiberoptics unlike the ACOG's. Although the ACOG's seem to meter themselves very nicely. It really comes down to the reticle. The only problem area with then is that the Accupoints have two semi-large posts which can obscure a target when holding over. I would think the standard triangle would be faster then the German #4 since the dot is much smaller. |

My KISS (or close to KISS) carbine, a RRA Entry Tactical carbine, Trijicon TA47-6 compact ACOG with a LaRue QD mount, tactical rail mounted to the bottom of the factory handguard with a VFG, Midwest Industries rear BUIS, and a two point sling:
I like the compact ACOG as I am able to use it at CQB distance all the way out to +200 yards. Reticle is a small yellow dot. |

That seems to be a very idiot proof option. Where can I get one, how much and to they work on A2 carry handles? |

I'm more of the KISS school of thought.
Who am I kidding, I'm too broke to by good optics right now. If I had the cash I'd go ACOG on one of my flat tops.
