A dozen years back or so, I had an over night security gig at an old coffee warehouse along the Chicago river. The $ was great for not doing much. One morning the boss says something about the rats, how he hates them and the poison/traps aren't working. He wasn't joking, there were rats all over that building!

"I think I can figure something out..."

Thank you Mr Ruger! The MkII and the 10/22 got quite the workout! Even after the security contract ended, the Company kept a few of of us on as "pest control specialist".
Occasionally, the boss would stop by at night and "check up on us" with a 6 pack. He said it was the best fun he's ever had at that place! Middle of the night, shooting rats.

Redneck NightVision is DONE!

I've already sold the setup except for my rifle to a chicken farmer. I deliver it this weekend once I have sighted in his Marlin bolt action rifle he bought.

So I bought me THIS!

ATN X-Scope 5-18

I'm awaiting the camera's return to get the rat shooting footage from my farmer friend.

He LOVES the setup I made for him.

Put it on a new little Marlin .22 bolt action.

It's the first gun he's ever bought. He's been here since the fall of Saigon, got his citizenship two years later and hasn't bought a gun.

He says he is now country as I am now. LOL

The 5-18 is WAY too powerful.

The 3-14 is better suited for night varmint hunting.

that is good to know, do you need an illumination light with the Atn? I have way to many coons, possums, and foxes around my chickens.

Yes, but they can't see the IR illuminator.

The only night vision that doesn't need illumination is thermal.

Even GEN3 has it's problems. A GEN3 has a life expectancy on the tube.

The ATN works identical to the camera. In fact it is not a tube at all, but a camera and viewfinder.

Some of the best times I had growing up was hunting rats at a dump. Just sit by the car and pop them all night. Killed a ton of rats with my Ruger 10/22.

My buddy killed 180 rats in three nights.

He never activated the effing record button on the camera, but he is now an avid 2nd supporter.

He LOVED his new Marlin 22 and never knew shooting could be so much fun.

I will be going with him in a few weeks and I damn sure will hit the record button.

His friend sent me with enough cash to build another rifle as he only has an airgun.

That is outstanding.

Part of me says that would be totally cool to be there, helping to reduce the rodent population. Another part says that's just freakin' creepy to be near so many rats.

I bet a 10/22 with 25 rounds mags and a cheap tablet with no IR filter on the camera would kick it up a notch.

A 10/22 would need a suppressor with subsonic ammo, much greater expense for a farmer.

The bolt action with 700fps ammo is the right combo.
