Owned an 82A1 for a while, and it was similar to a 12ga w/ 3" mags just like they said. Barrel is on springs w/ an effective brake, and the bolt must weight 5 lbs and has a long spring and travel. Stated differently IMO, not comparable to a bolt gun as 30 lb bolt gun would still be worse.

It took many years but I finally learned that the game I was hunting didn’t require a rifle and round that caused me pain and suffering. I use just enough to get the job done and not getting kicked by a mule in the shoulder goes a long way towards helping me hit a target. That said, there is a perverse delight in shooting some of the old African Safari rounds.
