S&W MP10 sub $800. Thoughts?
So I needed to sell a couple of rifles to raise $ for my boat project earlier this year. Now I am wondering about going the Layaway route for one of these to get me back into the semi .308 route on a budget. Wondering what the experiences on here are, good and bad. Thanks guys and gals.

I’ve only played with one that a friend owns. Fit,finish and function were good. I can’t speak to accuracy though, we never got to that.

Can they be purchased for less than $800? If I recall he payed over 1k at the time but the political climate has changed much since then.

Where can this price be found by chance?

I wouldn’t be afraid to try one out at that price. What’s your intended use?

Just a big boy AR.

The .308 win is such a great round. I am not recoil sensitive. So that is not an issue.
Reading reviews it may have some trouble cycling with heavier bullets.

If a reliable 7.62 semi auto at that price is a no brainer, Isn't it?

Over the years I’ve discovered that Sigforum is not the place (in most cases) to be talked OUT of buying a firearm. Big Grin

Go for it.

Plus, it's a S&W. Great long term support and warranty at PSA prices.

Do it.

I am kind of in agreement. I need to find a seller who will do a 60-90 day layaway now. Smile

I seem to remember a horror story from a previous member several years ago.

At that time, the Smith 308 had a proprietary barrel. They weren't available for replacement and Smith would not offer any help. Never owned one but the account stuck with me.

Or just get a 0% intro APR CC and have the gun now.

Just saying!

Or if you buy 2 of the PSA deals of the day you have a PSA AR10 with stainless barrel for under $600.

Thanks Black, that lower I could afford now and it would give me some options on a upper to save for. Hmmmmmmmmm? That is tempting for sure.

I had one and was happy with it. I sold it after I got bored with it. Nothing wrong with the gun, but I just really didn't have a use for a 308 AR other than a play toy.

Be mindful that that the AR10 is not mil-spec. One company’s lower may or may not work with another company’s upper.

Exactly.
I have considered a second upper for my Black Rain Ordnance AR10 rifle. It does not appear any company will guarantee that their DPMS-low-style upper will mate with my BRO lower. The logistics of confirming the mating of possible upper options means brands other than BRO are effectively a no-go for me.

Such are the consequences of rush buying in the face of impending state legislation that would have ixnayed all future AR-type sales. Fortunately, the legislation failed here.

But one of these days I will likely purchase a stripped BRO upper to build something in a different caliber.

Wow. Thats a very good deal indeed. I paid $1300 for mine which has been reliable and surprisingly accurate.

CQ, have you shot any heavier bullets through yours? Like 180gr.

What do you have for an optic? Thx

Back to the upper lower compatibility.
So a PSA Lower will only fit a "what" upper. Plz fill in the blank.

It's my understanding that the MP10's barrel has a 1:10 twist. Even with a 16" barrel, that should stabilize bullets to 210 grains, maybe more. Although my 308 barrel is a little longer at 23", it has no issues with bullets up to 190 grains, using 1:11.25 twist. I must assume your 180 grain bullets would be fine in a 1:10 barrel.

You may have a challenge finding which uppers fit PSA lowers. Probably will require people with multiple brands of AR10s swapping receivers between rifles.

My DPMS upper will work on my PSA g2 lower. But my PSA g2 upper will NOT work on the DPMS lower.

As far as an others that might work? I can't help you there ORC.
