I have a line on 2 Mini's;

One 183-series SS Mini and One 184 Blued Mini. NOT Ranch rifles, but the Mini's with the original iron sights.

I called Ruger and was told they only offer "Limited Service" on these. Significantly they do not offer any barrel servicing. I forgot to ask but I don't think they service the rear sight, either.

Both are 1/10 twist barrels.

Here's the question:

Do you guys know the details of what parts DO interchange with current models?

Is there any inherent flaw with the two series' parts, specs? I am already in full knowledge of the potential accuracy issues. For what I want these for, 4 inch 5 shot groups at 100 meters +- is fine. But though they are in essentially new-in-box condition, I will be able to shoot them first before buying. So I'll know if they are real lemons.

I want the old sights so that is not an issue unless the sights themselves possess some inherent flaw in adjustment or something like that.

Anything you know about these old rifles would be appreciated.

Don't plan on recovering much brass.

The model I have shot was actually flinging brass onto the roof of the barn that was 90 degrees perpendicular and about 20 feet away from where I was standing.

Ran like a champ though. It was offhand so I have no idea what kind of accuracy I was getting. Good enough for milk jugs at 100 yards.

That was a long time ago.

They should be dependable but due to their lack of accuracy, I have a first year gun, I wouldn't give over $500 for one.

This company is in CO and are evidently the experts per a few other forums.

http://www.ruger-mini-14-firea...4_30_accessories.php

I've never bought from them, but I plan on a few upgrades in the near future.

They have upgraded adjustable gas blocks (to help with slinging brass or with suppressors if you risk it with a Mini).

They have upgraded sights.

Many other things.

I assume they are still open. Although several spots on thier website refer to 2007, they have a feedback section that is recent and even offer some 300BLK upgrades.

Might be worth a look or a call! Smile

Thanks, guys!

1} I've shot one and yes, ejection is accomplished with gusto. As in, if I'm ever in a firefight I don't have to worry about my right flank...

2} Lack of accuracy is an issue but I have AR's that give me any level I need of that. I'll shoot these before deciding if I want them.

3} Thanks very much for the link and tip on the Mini-work outfit. That looks pretty helpful.

Anybody have any idea how many Mini-14's have been produced?

How do you come up with that estimate?

Is that domestic and semiauto only or including foreign and full-auto AC556 rifles?

I can't seem to find the original source now, for some reason. I used this data in my marketing plan. Let me search a bit more.

The Tech Sights are available for the Mini-14's and are probably much more precise and reasonably priced...
Tech Sights

You would want the RR200 model
