I have the Marlin 1894 in both 44mag, and 357mag. With all the options for cartridge choices, I think the 44mag would be a better choice over the 45LC.
The 1894 Marlin 44mag is a great hunting rifle. I have used the 44mag for hunting deer with a lighter load cartridge, and even moose - with a heavy 300 grain XTP bullet. One well-placed shot with the 300gr XTP round, and the moose dropped after three steps.
