Some of you may remember a thread I posted thanking Tim at Sig Sauer in NH for the great service in sending me a low base for a Romeo 3.

Here it is, installed in it's new home on my Marlin 336C. I can't hit crap any more with old style notch and post iron sights but with this, I am back in business.

Points naturally, good cheek weld, fast acquisition of sight picture, and nice and accurate.

I am a happy camper.

Good marrying of new tech on old tech. .35 Rem is one fantastic hunting cartridge. How long have you owned the Marlin?

I did the same with my old 39a and a burris fast fire. It turned a ho hum shooter int a fun quick, but deliberate shooter.

It's a 1954 or 1956 Marlin; my memory fails me... but I bought it at a gun show last August. Had some rust on the tube and barrel where the prior owner had attached a leather sling with a strap, and the rear band and band screw was buggered.

I steel-wool buffed the rust off, you can see the bright spots at the muzzle end, and refinished the stocks.

Action is slicker than snot and the trigger is really pretty good. I suspect it is significantly more accurate than I am.

Really like this gun, because it carries so nicely, but I just couldn't group shots with the iron sights. This makes it a very usable woods gun for me.

Nice old perch belly you got there; that's a reliable cartridge for anything walking the lower 48.

That is a bear killer right there.

55...you are right on the edge of conventional rifling. Is it that or Microgroove?

I took a transitional 36/336 conventional groove .30-30 with me to South Africa when we moved over there in 89. Shot a monkey with it.

Your 35 would be a peach for chasing bear around here.

what's the cost of that sight?

I believe this one has conventional rifling. I looked up the serial, and it is an "L" prefix which means 1954. It certainly seems conventional from a bore inspection.

I got the sight as part of a Sig M-400 AR package deal for $1030 combined. Sig lists the sight for $479 and Midway et. al. seem to have it for around $400. I had assumed it was a $200 sight, but I didn't buy it separately.

A friend just installed a Vortex Venom on his Marlin 1895 in 45-70 and it seems every bit as nice. He told me he paid around $220 for the Venom.

If you go this route, get the smallest dot you can. I both the Sig and the Vortex have a 3 MOA dot. It's not big, but with ageing eyes that cause the dot to flare a bit, out beyond 100 yards, even 3 MOA begins to cover some of the target.

You can tell, easily from the bayonet end or if you prefer, pull the bolt out of it which takes 2 seconds. Which allows you clean the bore from the breech end.

I like that concept right there Artie. I'd take that in a heartbeat over a Ruger scout. I'm considering something similar on my Ruger 44 carbine my daughter uses for deer. Thanks for posting.

Nice I bought my 336 35 Remington from my aunt after my uncle died. Where did you find the info on serial numbers?

While I have the reflex style sight on the gun, I think that a regular 1X red dot like a Primary Arms, Vortex Strike Fire or Aimpoint PRO would work just as well.

The rails are cheap, predrilled for the Marlin. Leupold rail is about $12.00 from Midway.

Here is just one site with the serial number information.

You've got a Sporting Carbine.

My favorite configuration, same as my 36/336 Transitional Monkey Gun was.
