If it’s a Pre-Remington, it’s not a terrible price; if it is pre1983 and lacking the cross bolt safety, then the price is a bit more attractive. If it is made in Ilion NY, I would not pay near that much for even a brand new one.

No this is a brand new Marlin, not pre-W.

on yesterdays western movie,
some guy was loading a lot of ammo in to a lever action,
but he was loading his lever action rifle , like I load my marlin .22 lr.

he must have put at least a dozen cartridges un the tube up by the muzzle and then he had a lever that he pulled back a ways

I need to add 22 Magnum and 22 Long Rifle to the list. I traded for a couple of Henry carbines today. Oh, and 177. I have a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun.

Sounds like an 1860 Henry. I think the rimfire originals held 17 or 18 rounds and loaded as you describe. The lever he pulled back a ways was probably the follower, which locked in the open position. Then you lowered that follower to put spring tension on the rounds in the tube.

Saw a guy blow up a modern replica by dropping that follower on the loaded rounds, thus setting off a primer or two. This was not a problem with the original rimfire cartridge, but certainly is with the centerfire replicas.

I have four Marlin .22 lever actions, a couple .45 Colt levers, two Winchester 94 .25-35s, a Marlin .38-55, Savage 99s in .250-3000 and .300 Savage, Marlin .30-30,and a Winchester 94 .30-30. I think that's it.

and another thing;

do any of the levers mentioned above have those floppy saddle rings on the drivers side ?

I checked w/ Hickok
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DL2yX69SXI

you are correct
Hickok had a .44-40 cal.

the one in the movie that I saw had cartridges that were about half as long as the 44-40's in the hickok video. ( 32-30 maybe? )

We had them on some, but they are no big deal to remove, which we did.

My 94 Winchester has a saddle ring...my Rossi 92 clone doesn't have one.

I have admired the Win M71 for several years after learning about it. Never had one, a good example cost real money. But I have some 348 WCF ammo, antique Winchester Silver Tips, handsome cartridges with very nice old fashioned blunt force knock-em-flat ballistics.

So where's yall's Model 71s ?

JM stamped GBL from the first run, 45-70.

I replaced the buckhorns with the peep/rail system from the SBL and added a 1.5 EER Leupold on a quick release. It's my Scout rifle. Aim for the blue helmets.

Got a pre crossbolt Marlin 1894 in 44.

Found an original Miroku built steel receiver BLR in 308.

Levers are way cool indeed.

I rooted for some old pix but couldn't find any.

I had bought a original Win rifle and a Browning Carbine. Shot deer and a small bear with it. Handloaded and cast bullets for it {Rapine 240 gr}. Also had a collection of 150, 200 and 250 grain ammo.

They are a neat rifle. Balance very well but the Win's have a terrible reputation for poor accuracy, a reputation which they live up to... The Jap Brownings are much better made and more accurate in my experience.

My Win had a Lyman 38 rear sight, too, which for cool factor was "it"!

If I find some pix I'll post them.
