So far I've scrounged up a VZ24 action, 30-06 barrel and a custom chromed sporter bolt.

All this for $250. I'm seriously considering the .270 barreled action also.

Now I'm looking at a eruopean double set trigger and stock set.

I'm going for the 30's era safari look so the glass will have to be antique.

They still have some left over.

Like a 7mm REM and such. Big Grin

I'll have just a little over a grand invested, and the rifle will be my own creation.

do your next build on a 1903 action.

gibbs rifle company has them for sale.

the distributor is southern ohio gun.

do one in 270.

Someone once asked me if I was getting a little on the side. I said, "On the side? When did they move it?"

Why do you collect guns? Same reason some people collect snow globes. To kill badguys.

"The secretary then said she didn't want her workplace to look like the wild west. I asked her if she preferred it to look like Columbine."

Klassik for a classic

I like the looks of the S&B 1.1-4X24 Zenith. Classic and classy.

Linky

And I assume that as a safari rifle, only an Intl. full length stock is acceptable?

Safari look? Cool

Iron sights first. You will need some rear "express" sights, combined with a full wrap ramped front(like a ruger tropical)
1/4 rib,3/4 rib;one standing one folding or all folding and no rib.
Shallow "V" notch express type.

Scopes? the world is your oyster depending on how "30's" you want to look.
Any lyman alaskan, kollmorgan, leitshert etc in fixed power will do.
Definantly the classic german "post/cross bar" reticle.
Scope mnt.?...true 30's would be a griffen & howe, yeager, pachmeyer side plate with double lever q/r ring sled.

Thats pricey though(250-300$)
A retro alternative would be either a weaver or pachmeyer "tip off" ring set or a dedicated "stith" mount that uses the rear sight dovetail.

These things are fun Cool Big Grin

I bought a 50's era Weaver a few months ago and I do have that sweet Alaskan on my 03A4. Wink

I do like the idea of a side mount for the scope, but wouldn't an American gunsmith used a Redfield Jr, or Weaver mounts?

Scope mounts I have you covered from 1897-1965.

Mars, I suggest that you take a serious tack to your build, and lend an ear to what Horse has to offer.

His knowledge is an immeasurable aide to someone on a quest for a righteous stick. Turning a deaf ear to him will be your loss.

Arc.

I'm gathering parts as suggested. I'll be scrounging for the mount this next few weeks.

I will post up pix as soon as it's more presentable than a box of stuff.

I'm just beyond thrilled with the old custom bolt that's on the action, other than the bent rod on the originals.

I definately will keep Horse informed and continue to seek his advice.

I'm also in the middle of an Enfield safari build.

I have a No4 barrel on it and sprung for a No4-T sight mount so far.
