I have been working on a project gun aroung a Interarms MKX and wishing I had a 110. Well......went to the funstore( actually a pawn shop where they don't know much about guns) and they had a used one, good shape metalwise scratched stock, 30-06 got it and a scope I wanted for another rifle CHEAP. They had never seen a 110.

I know from shooting someone else's that they can be quite accurate.

I understand caliber changes (barrel swaps) are easy.

I know someone made a drop-in (Hooah Hooah) "Tacticak stock for them at one time.

I wonder if the "Accu-Trigger" can be retrofit?

I kinda feel like an artist with a blank canvas at this point.

Since I love the BC of a heavy 6.5 bullet I'm kinda thinking the 6.5-06 wildcat.

I can't at the moment forsee a USE for a 600+ yard rifle BUT I also don't have one, so naturally I WANT one.

Advice, experience, tips, warnings would be apprecited.

Thanks.

The non accutrigger guns can't have accutrigger fitted there are match triggers you can get.

Bell makes tactical stocks and this little stock company called McMillan also does.

If it has the fatory stock replace it. It is a horrible thing.

Shilen, Lothar and several other companies make drop in barrels for savages.

Thanks. I knew that Shaw made barrels, but...well I have never heard anyone out-and-out rave about them.

I could not remember if Mcmillan had stock for the long action I will check them out.
Yes the factory stock was a waste of, not even good, firewood.

I have hunch this is going to be an intersting project.

My Great Uncle used to wildcat rifles, and he always said that Savages had the best quality barrels for the price. I have 2, a 110 308win and a 12 .223. Both work great, and are accurate with the right ammo. The 12 is in a Chaote lead weighted stock, and is sub MOA. You can ask Watchman and B.R. about them, they shot mine.

My personal build preferences are:

Lothar Walther barrels (Adams and Bennet when finances are limited)
Boyds stocks
Timney triggers
Leupold 1-piece scope mounts

After trying multiple other products, I have had the best luck with these. They just seem to work well for me.

I have fought with half a dozen differrent manufacturers stocks. The Boyds seem to be cut the closest to the action and barrel they claim they are for. My last stock required no mods to the wood at all. It even fit the Timney trigger assembly! All I had to do was bed it, and it was good to go.

countrygun, I assume you are aware that you will have to headspace the chamber on a new barrel, right? Not difficult, and you can rent the reamers to do it if you don't know someone that has them.

One more suggestion. If your budget is tight, you will be able to find a barrel in .25-06 cheaper than 6.5-06 and they are very similar in ballistic performance. My 25-06 is my favorite rifle right now.

Have fun with your build!

Thanks for the info. Budget isn't really a consideration, I am just curious about how much can be done for how little. It's almost more like a mental exercise. I have to confess that my collection, and experience with, sub-thirties is low a couple of .250 Savages, a 6.5 Swede, and a 7mm Mauser. Not to put them down but I always considered sub .30's as "Cute" but more of an indulgent luxury(purely a "Family Tradition"). I do have over 20 .30 and aboves. I have done my own bedding for years and can chamber and headspace as well. Since I reload for all my guns the idea of the 6.5 wildcat appeals. I am also beginning to notice recoil making long sessions a little less pleasant than I remember them when I was younger. Frown
