Hey all-
What do you use for an inexpensive sighting system for an AR? A fixed gas block front sight and a Magpul MBUS comes immediately to mind. What else is out there, especially if you do not have a front sight?
What's your solution?

RogueJSKIf you don't have the ability to add a front sight for whatever reason, and it's just for plinking, then a cheap red dot will do. You can get something like a Primary Arms Micro or a Bushnell TRS-25 for around $100, including a mount.

CD228The least expensive sighting system I would trust would be the Magpul MBUS (Non-Airsoft). I own and have owned several and never had an issue.

BisleyblackhawkAs for mounting the Magpul BUS on a front gas block...the polymer on the MBUS doesn't play well with the gas block when it heats up.

IndianaBoyI have a Vortex SparcAR that has seen some real abuse banging around inside a tractor cab and has held perfect zero.
It is superior to irons in most respects IMHO.
If you have a FSB a good DD A1.5 rear sight is a good option.
I have become an optics snob though and favor optics that are more expensive than I care to admit. But irons CAN get it done within some limitations.

RNshooterGood suggestions.
I have a carry handle and a Matech flip up rear sight. Those will do fine with a fixed front sight.
The lack of a front sight on the 7.5" pistol upper had me wondering if MBUS was the only option or if I might be missing something obvious.

Vortex Strikefire II added in December, in addition to the irons.

I have them (BUIS on RDS rifles) but 99% of the time they are in the down position.

Same here. Red dot is primary. Iron sights are true backups, and are kept folded.
If it's a defensive rifle, then you'll certainly want both. If it's just for plinking, then you can get by with just the red dot, since if the dot fails all it means is that you have to go home early.

hrcjonIt's kind of piling on at this point. But any gun you consider for serious work needs both. play guns not so much. I'd never, ever, have a defensive rifle or pistol that did not have backup irons. Yes (at least on rifles) aimpoints are stunningly reliable, but sh** happens.

kimberkidNot sure how good they are but they seem OK, and you said inexpensive ... Flip up front & rear for $22.99 ... Or wait, these are cheap, probably made in China!

I'm really not a "kid" anymore ... but I haven't grown up yet either
