I was waiting for Ironwood Designs to offer AR furniture. These are well made, and available now.

Got a fancy AL trigger guard and now the lower is done. Now the wait for uppers begins.

Slapped the HBar upper on it just for some idea of the end result.

Handguard is here. The upper itself will be a while.

Very pleased. Well made.

P.S. I don't have a wrench, it wasn't that hard to get the handguards off the Colt.

Super cool! The furniture gives it a fancy retro look. The rifle equivalent of a "barbeque gun".

Some 20 round waffle mags and a leather sling would be a nice touch, IMO. Whatever direction you go, that is the start of a really unique, no frills AR.

Even odds that this handguard gets to smoking.

That's what I was thinking ... especially the way the gas tube is encased

But its for show, not go ... right?

I'll be shooting it, rapid fire perhaps not so much.

Tempted to router some slots.

Could that actually make things worse by blackening the wood around the vents?

Considering that the original handguards have slots, I think they may be a good idea.

Certainly, they would delay the buildup of heat that would begin to char the wood to begin with.

I'll be willing to potentially roast a handguard to find out. Last time I did, it was an AK, it's pretty east to burn/melt barrel furniture really.

I would expect these to begin to smoke, and char along the top of the seam at the gas tube first, because it is the thinnest area overall.

We'll find out.

Nothing ventured nothing gained ... If you don't cut the slots it will be an uncontrolled burn

Here's an idea for your wood AR. Get an old mag and put on thin stick-on wood laminate on the parts of the mag that protrudes from well. Would make a cool wall hanger that actually works! :-)

Arc, how about posting the web site where you found your wood furniture, because that stock and pistol grip would look damned good on my Shilen barreled Gibbz Side charger.

I've stopped counting.

I ordered an upper a while back. It came today. It's now a pseudo-A1, with a 1/7 twist.

MA doesn't allow new ARs since 2016, but I bought these lowers back in 2012.

Now I should get off my duff and get the side charger into an upper.
