Ruger Mini 14 in 300 Blackout
I have never been a Ruger guy but recently this gun has been on my mind. I want something in 300 Blackout but I don't want a rifle that accepts AR15 mags. Does anybody here have experience with this rifle? I mostly will be shooting non suppressed supersonic ammo just for reference.

I don't have one in .300 blackout, but I do love my Mini-14. I'm a sucker for a lightweight carbine, and I like the rotating bolt action. I was looking for an M1 carbine, but unfortunately got into that game too late to find an affordable one...but I stumbled across this gem at a Garage sale for $500.

It's far from a precision rifle (best I've done with it is a 3" group at 100 yards), but it's handy, reliable as a brick, and a great option for shooting from a standing or kneeling position. Mine is an older variant from the 80's....the good news for you is that if you can find a Mini-30 chambered in .300 blackout, it'll be one of the newer ones with the redesigned barrel that is supposed to yield better accuracy than the older ones.

If you reload one thing you may not like is that the things throw brass into the next zip code. We were shooting off my buddy's back porch one time, and my rifle was throwing brass onto the roof of the house 20 feet behind us.

Wrong version. Just like it is with the AR-15, the 300BLK version of the Mini is built off of the Mini-14, not the Mini-30 because it's using a 5.56x45/.223REM bolt face. The only things needed to be changed is the barrel swap and hopefully the magazines with stronger, more durable springs suitable for better handling the wear that heavier 300BLK rounds bring to the table.

These days loading your own is about the only means of having a reliable source of Blackout range ammo at a somewhat reasonable price...and that's assuming that one can find an adequate supply of primers if you don't already have a hoard to draw from.

Gotcha. I always figured that the 300blk was on the same platform as the 7.62x39 variant, but I guess it does make more sense the other way now that you point that out. I've only ever seen one chambered in .300...sadly not a lot of minis on the market locally.

Thanks for the replies. I can't seem to put my finger on one locally either currently

I heard about a lot of reliability issue with 300 BLK Mini-14's. A review had lots of malfunctions. I looked it up after seeing one at a Cabela's and gave up the idea.
